I understand trail 50" and ex is 60"  What is this 53" wide sxs?

Before they called them "Trail" they called the 800s without the extended a-arms "53s". Mine, a 2015, in fact was called the CFMoto ZForce 800 53. It was 53"s wide at it widest part which was the shoulder bars. Yes, the 50" trails are still 53"s there too...I do believe.

Yes, the 50" models measure 50 to the outsides of the wheels while the body itself is 53" wide at the widest part. The 60 os I think 59.5" outsides of the wheels though don't quote me.

So a trail and 53 are the same widths?

Yep. Both from the factory are 50" to the outside of the front tires but 53" at the shoulder (or was it the hip) bar. I have doors so I don't have the bars anymore...but do have 1.5" wheel spacers so now I'm 53 at the wheels...Oh well.
