22 oil filter part number
« on: March 12, 2023, 09:42:30 AM »
I'm getting ready for the first oil change n my 800 trail and I'm wondering if anyonne has some cross-reference to any aftermarket filters or what is everyone's experience with OEM oil filters. Anyone done some measurements of the OEM? Also is the dry clutch 2022 engine takes the same oil filter like the wet clutch pre-2022 version? I found the OEM part number 0800-011300-0004, is this correct?
Appreciate everyone's insight!

Using the same oil with the same JASO MA2 rating with or without wet clutches is just fine.

Sometime back I did some measuring on the OE filter and two others people use which were for the Rotax 800 engine which were the Hiflo 152 and the K&N 152. Although people use these with no "known" problems and are likely just fine, measurements and actual fitment tests indicate there is a potential for bypassing or leak-by at the rubber grommet as when installed the post doesn't expand the rubber grommet enough to eliminate the play between it and the filter's base. Therefore I will not use it. Only the OE CFM filter actually fits it correctly. People will argue but I have actually felt and seen the side to side play.. so argue away people. Here were one set of measurements.

NMK,

I'm a pretty new member and owner of a used '15 Z800. I wish I'd seen this before I change the oil in it last week for the first time.

Any chance we could start a sticky on confirmed alternative parts for the Z's? I posted a donut gasket that definitely works, the oil filters could be included along with your warning / info here so folks can proceed with caution. I recently saw on another board I joined, some parts store axles that fit also. I thought it might be useful. Sometimes using alternative parts is about getting better quality, sometimes saving a buck, and others it boils down to availability. Anyhow, thanks to your dedication to these machines. This forum has already been a wealth of info!

Sounds like a good idea. I'll create a new board in General just for Alternative parts.
