2023 ZForce Trail 800 turn signals
« on: August 17, 2023, 02:18:46 PM »
Trying to get turn signals installed on this UTV. Got the CFMoto parts for the flasher, turn signal switch and hazard lights and installed them. Get front turn signals and hazard lights but nothing in the rear.  Quick probe on the trailer connector shows no signals there either.  Checking the wiring diagram it shows lines in the harness going from the flasher to the light assemblies front and rear though.  Is there a plug someplace in the harness that isn't connected in by default, or are the rear lights not wired up.  (There is a 3 pin  connector under the hood that isn't connected with a label that says "connect for power". Anyone know what that is for?)  Seems strange there's nothing on the trailer connector and even stranger still that everything else is in the harness and works - front turn signals, horn, etc.  Thanks in advance!

I know that on my 2015 they didn't just flash the brake lights left and right, they used a separate internal light so in order to get turn signals on the rear, I need to buy both complete EU/CA tail light assemblies because the US versions don't have them in it. In 2015 they also don't have any up front and have to be installed as separate units. Are you 100% sure the connector on the tail light side is connected to all the wires on the harness side?

My research so far seems to indicate the Gen2 for 2023 comes in two type - one for the US and one for the rest of the world.  The world version comes fully street legal.  My assumption was that to minimize supply chain issues and parts inventory they'd try and keep the builds as similar as possible and just eliminate some parts in the US version like the horn, mirrors, turn signals and license plate holder and light.  Checking parts inventory in both the US and Canada doesn't turn up any differences in front or rear light assemblies, and installing the flasher and turn signal switch got the front turn signals to work.  I've got the wiring diagrams for all the Gen2 and it doesn't show separate wiring harness for the US version vs the World version.  Thing like the horn wiring were in place and worked. I also see wiring for the optional heater and a few other things under the dash I haven't identified yet.  At this point I'm assuming there's a connector in the harness which isn't plugged in that activates the rear turn signals in both the light assembly and the trailer connector.  I haven't disassembled the tail lights yet, but it appears there is a row of LEDs in them that aren't activated by the running lights or brake lights and I've assumed they must be the turn signals.  So I'm still stumped.

BTW, from what I've seen in my research the Gen1 units (prior to 2023) all did have different head and tail light assemblies for units with and those without turn signals.  There's only one part number for the Gen2 (2023) units for headlights and taillights and it's the same for US and non-US (Canadian) configurations.  Since the headlight assemblies on my 2023 do have amber turn signal LEDs in them I'm assuming the read light assemblies also have them, but someplace they're not connected.  I also checked the fuse box and there's nothing in there for only the rear lights.

OK, answering my own question here since I got it figured out and working.  On the 2023 ZForce Trail 800 Gen2 you have a choice of either backup lights or rear turn signals.  On the passenger side behind the rear quarter panel there are two connectors in the wiring harness, one labeled "Turn Signals" and the other labeled "Backup lights" (in Chinese of course). The wire harness coming from the tail lights and trailer connector has a single connector that either of these, but not both, can be plugged into.  I'll do a full writeup on what is necessary to convert the US model into a World model to be street legal along with the CFMoto parts list and suppliers if anyone is interested.

Yes, please do a full write-up and post it in the How-To section. There are.. or will be so many that it would help.

I've posed a PDF in the How-To section on how to install factory turn signals on the 2023 Gen2 Zforce 800/950 Trail and 950 Sport.  I included a bit more information on the legal procedures needed to actually license a UTV as Street Legal as well.  The process works well and I used it on my previous UTV.  Hoping it helps those who wish to follow in my footsteps.

I had issue with a new CFMoto OEM flasher, did not work. I bought an aftermarket on Amazon, signals worked. I plugged the OEM flasher back in, it now works...

I saw a post on this someplace when I was doing my research, and it may have been one that you made.  The CFMoto Flasher does seem to be way over-engineered for what is needed.  (I base this on the simple wire harness and setup I engineered for turn signals and hazard lights I did for my old Honda Pioneer using just a simple flasher, diodes, LED lights and switches I got off Amazon.)  Can't explain why your first attempt to use the OEM flasher didn't work though, unless it was something as simple as a dirty connection or loose connection.  One thing for others to keep in mind here is that the flasher on the Gen1 (pre-2023 models) like you 2022 is simpler and replaceable with non-CFMoto parts, whereas the Gen2 (2023 model) uses a different flasher which, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have a non-CFMoto replacement.
