I know that the my 2023 already had the wiring in place to add a horn as well as turn signals. I have now done both. But I also noticed that the non US models (at least the Canadian models) also have a switch to turn headlights/marker lights off. I am including a photo of the Canadian model dash showing the switch. I believe it is called the Illumination switch. It will turn all the lights off, turn on just the running lights and finally turn all lights on. The switch is to the left of the Norm/Sport switch and the hi/lo headlight beam switch.


If I wanted to install this switch, is the associated connector and harness behind the dash?

There is a switch blank in the correct spot. Looking behind the dash, there is an unconnected 2 pin connector branching off the harness close to the hi/lo switch. The odd thing is I would normally assume there should be at least 3 wires because one position would illuminate running lights and one would also turn on headlights. So there would have to be a feed along with outputs for 2 different functions. It might be worth trying to see if it works.

Although maybe it's just a 2 position switch and it kills all lights or turns all lights on?

Ok, I think I might be in the wrong track of what the function of that Illuminating switch is for.


I have seen on some videos where there is some light coming off dash just above the switches. It is right below the lip of the dash. I looked at mine and can see a thin whitish color plastic strip that runs almost the length of right side of dash and a smaller one on left side above the switches. I peeked behind the dash and saw that each side is connected to the main harness. The right side one is connected in the middle and the left side one has some kind of module attached to the side.


Now I'm wondering if the illumination switch activates the lighting in these? I guess the easiest way would be to jumper that connector I originally found but I'm worried about messing up something electrical if I'm wrong.


I really need to get a factory service manual so I can see the electrical diagrams...

Well it looks like it is actual installed lighting fixtures and shows up in the diagrams event on the US models. I believe it is referred to as ambient lighting. In the parts list under the diagram for lights, the right side fixture is part #5BWV-160320-5000 and listed as Deco Part Dashboard. It's listed at $159.99. the left side fixture is part #5BWV-160310-5000 also listed as Deco Part Dashboard and is listed at $46.99


What really surprises me is it appears that these are actual light fixtures installed on these machines with no provision in US models to activate it.

Ok, looks like this is a bust too. I went ahead and jumpered the connector. Nothing happened. No dash illumination. I'm assuming something else needs to be done for this to work. I know when doing turn signals, a black 9 pin connector needed to be jumpered to supply power for rear turn signals to work through the rear "trailer" socket.

I'd be a little careful about jumpers and such...that's how fires get started sometimes...especially on these Chinese machines. Need a wiring diagram to study first.

Second that! I'd be very careful installing jumpers.  I always try to trace out the wiring first with a voltmeter and multimeter.  Unfortunately the wiring diagram in the shop manual isn't very helpful.  It's on a fold-out sheet that's only A3 size (11"x17").  I've tried blowing it up but the resolution of the original is so low everything just comes out fuzzy.  There do appear to be color codes on the drawing - if you can read them with a magnifying glass.
