2022 Zforce 800 new engine / transmission design?
« on: August 26, 2022, 09:40:07 PM »
There is a thread in a group on fakebook about a new engine / transmission design that is in the 2022 Zforce 800 models. It is claimed it now has a dry clutch. I have not located any info beyond that thread on a dry clutch setup. It is claimed that the new design has two dipsticks, oil & trans oil. The trans oil dipstick is accessed via a removable panel behind the passenger seat, my Zforce has this design. These links show the 2022 Zforce 800 Trail has a wet clutch. How can I visually identify if my machine still has a wet clutch, or a dry clutch?

That's news to me..and most everyone else. As far as anyone here knows, the ZForce 800 engine is unchanged from it first design in 2015 with a wet clutch. However, in 2018 when the 1000s came out the same case was redesigned to split the engine and transmission oils and delete the wet clutch. That design is still found on the 1000s and 950s....and a variant on the 800xc I believe.  A quick confirmation would be: that yes, the original location for the oil dip stick would be in the same place as it always was but now for just the transmission but on the other end of the case on the same side (oil filter side) would be the engine oil dipstick. If you have this re-design of the ZF800, please post pics. :)

I know nothing about CFMoto, but slowly learning.

Here are some pics for dipstick locations. Oil dipstick location on page 146 in owners manual. The photo I question as being for transmission, the poor photos / drawings in the owners manual do not look like this, and state it is on the 1000 only, page 151

Overall I do not like fakebook, but the some groups have been fairly useful for learning about quirks, defects, upgrades, mods, etc. I am skeptical about what I read on fakebook, which I why I sought knowledge here. Also here is a link to the fakebook post I referenced:

On the 800s before any change the stick under the oil filter was engine and trans. On the new design on the 1000s that one is the transmission only and the other one..the one closer to the starter...the one you questioned at Transmission.. is the engine oil in the new design. So...does yours have this second stick?

The photos are my machine. The middle photo is what the owners manual says is the engine oil dipstick. The fluid smell - best description I can think of is it smells like wet hay.  ;D The bottom photo is the dipstick I question as being for transmission, the fluid smells like gas contaminated oil, so they are different lubricants. Both fluids are clear, the machine only has 4.9 miles on it.

It would be silly to put a dipstick for the transmission opposite side of the engine from the transmission and nearly right under the crank shaft. Equally silly is to place a dipstick for the engine oil directly into the transmission...but hay why knows about the Chinese these days..lol. Anything is possible. The short is- they use gear lube in the transmission and diffs so..if it smells like gear lube..it's not engine oil.

I emailed CFMoto directly. This was their reply. They did not tell me if my machine has a wet or dry clutch.

Thank you for contacting CFMOTO-USA:

We’re sorry for the confusion. CFMOTO will be sending out corrected owner’s manuals shortly. The dipstick found near the right rear shock is actually for the engine oil, while the other one you found is for the transmission. We hope this helps!

Can anyone tell me if the Dr. Pulley 2318-24G weights will fit the CForce 800XC CVT? I bought these before I learned of the engine / transmission change in the Zforce 800 Trail.

My local dealer found a CFMoto bulletin from July 2022 (after about 10 minute online search, buried in CFMoto digital archives), stating the 2022 Zforce 800 Trail now has the same engine / transmission as the CForce 800XC, effective JANUARY 2022. I'm working with two different dealers, neither were aware of this change, did not see the bulletin until I brought it to their attention.

CFMoto is an EPIC FAIL when it comes to communicating changes to machines, especially a substantial change as engine / transmission. They change stuff in JANUARY, wait until JULY to inform dealers, and STILL do not have an updated owners manual available. It's been NINE months now, and they knew long before then, that they were making the change.  >:(

If they indeed did go to the the new style clutch with no wet clutch, no, the old sliders will in no way fit the new clutch. You can buy the new blocks and probably the weights separate from Dr Pulley or from CVTec. Here is a link to the Dr Pulley blocks for the new clutch style.

Thanx NMK. I just got this email from CFMotousaparts, I saved as screenshot. They say the "notice" is attached to diagrams, but I don't see it, looking at the links in my original post.

Looks like they did.. and didn't tell very many people. Maybe you can return the sliders...or sell them. I know lots of people here want the 24gram sliders for the old clutch...including me. Next time I open mine up it's going back to C1 and my 22gram sliders are being exchanged for 24s. My hot-rod'n days are over and want it to run and cruz at lower RPMs.

I got a return label to send them back, they are in the mailbox. If beneficial to the machine, I still want to tweak the CVT for hauling heavy weight for long distance overlanding (Michigan to Trans-America Trail, to BDR Routes, to Arizona Peace Trail & BDR, etc). I want to get best durability / longevity from clutch & belt. I bookmarked the link for the block you posted. Redneck garage is supposed to be uploading a new video eventually, to the youtube channel detailing the changes.

This link is for the Dr. Pulley weights I bought on Amazon:

Wouldn't have worked in the old clutches anyway. Takes 8, not 6 sliders. And they take 30mmx18mm and these are 23x18.

I don't remember where I got the specs for what I ordered, but I got bad info from somewhere, prolly fakebook. One more reason not to browse there anymore.
