2020 Z800 Trail no start
« on: February 04, 2023, 10:56:02 AM »
this is what I have done to troublshoot the no start on my Z800.  The symnptom started on my weekly start up and run.  the battery is up to par, even bridged in another to test.  The amp draw on the battery when key is on(not start) is more than 7.5
amp dc.  The fuses box, normally on fuses to battery drop from battery voltage to 3.48 vdc.  But the battery B+ remains at 12.38 vdc..  As shown on the picture, the LCD back ground lights up momentarily when turning the ign switch to off. the normally powered fuses coem back to Battery voltage.  the winch has power no matter the posit of ign switch.

Many CFMs between 2019 and 2020 had bad main fuse holders...in that internal wire crimps were not done correctly and resulted in cold connections. I would pull the drivers seat, then open the rear compartment to expose that main fuse. Then turn the key on and the lights. Then test the the incoming and outgoing sides of the fuse. If bad, the battery side will be the same as the battery but the other side will show a noticeable voltage change. If bad just cut it out and replace it with a water resistant fuse and holder that exceeds the limits of the need and install just a 20 amp fuse in it. I have use the Maxi fuses in the past with good luck.

Put a good load on it before testing it.

found issue, cable plastic cap trapped under ring terminal from battery.  Musta come from the factory that way as its never been apart by me, maybe dealer on assembly?  But removed melted plastic, burnished contats and ring terminals.  running again
