2016 Cfmoto 800 trail steering tight
« on: August 15, 2020, 05:14:33 AM »
Hey guys I’ve got a 2016 cfmoto zforce 800 trail with eps and I bumped a rock a little with the front drivers tire. Ever since when I get about 20mph or so my steering seems tight. Normal when driving slower. Pretty new to these machines so wasn’t sure if maybe I tweaked a ball joint or knocked out the allignment. I could use the advice lol. Thanks in advance

You can check the alignment and the ball joint but...what happens a lot with these is that the rack gets bent inside and/or the tie rod bends on impacts like that. When the rack gets bent it becomes harder for the pinion to move the rack through the end bushings but with the power steering being "speed sensitive" it is strongest at low speeds and less powerful at higher speeds..like above 20, you may not feel that binding in the rack until the power steering backs off at that higher speed. So, jack the front end up off the ground and rotate the steering without turning the key on..move it slowly side to side. You should be able to feel the binding in the rack then. If not, then maybe its something else.

Thanks I messed with the alignment today and it was a little tweaked, I brought it in and everything seemed to improve. I’ll have to jack it up just to double check that I didn’t mess anything up. Thanks a bunch   :D
