Might be a different subject but also wondering about shifting from selections park Rev. Etc... does the brake need to be pressed or the button on the shifter need to be pressed? I am able to run the shifter through all the selections with out using the brake or button on the shifter. Wondering if there is a safety sensor that only let's it start in neutral or park that isn't reading?

Will post a video shortly
Now there's a distinct possibility. Is the neutral light on in the dash? If not, try applying the brake while turning the key. And yes, you should have to press the shifter button to shift  between some gears.

Yes neutral light comes on. I've tried starting in all gears.  Solenoid will click with brake pressed I. Rev, high, and low. Do not have to press brake for solenoid to click in neutral and park

Looking more and more like either a starter motor problem or...a locked engine. Need to see if you can rotate the engine by hand. Although...there have been reports of bad starter solenoids. But you say you bridged the two main posts and nothing happened. A starter trying to turn a locked engine would still pull a lot of amps and spark hard.

I've jumped the terminals on the solenoid no crank. Maybe the starter. Been looking in the manual for any way to test the starter with a multi meter and haven't found anything.

I don't think seized motor I literally drove it in the shop turned it off took the battery out and haven't touched it till about 2 3 weeks ago. But could be a possibility.

Any suggestions on testing it with out pulling a park plug and dragging it around in gear?

For the starter just pull it and with some jumpers jump it to a battery.....a well charged one preferably.

Use your muti and check if power is getting to the starter, you may need a helper.
If so then you will need to take the time to remove starter. check the connection at the starter.
The z8 is a wetclutch so pulling it will not spin the motor,
You will need to mechanically spin it.

I don't know what the starter looks like on these as I have never looked at it. But if the positive terminal is accessible you can jump it directly from a good battery with a large gauge wire or jumper cable without removing it, will have the same effect as bench testing it. Not sure how you would turn this motor over I don't think there is anything external, you might have to pull the clutch cover off and physically turn the primary clutch by hand. Someone who has worked on them more would know.

I might pull the fan down on the right side to see if I could turn the crank from there.

Check the ohms, most dc motors would be about 0.1.

So got a chance to work on it tonight. Pulled the starter used the boost pack on an she spun. Put it back in hooked the battery up and tried cranking again only to hear the solenoid click. Getting frustrated I just kept clicking it a couple more times then went to tap on the starter and smelt burning wires. Now I think maybe theirs a short somewhere or the start is actually toasted.(still don't have the gear motor and harness yet. So those 2 sets of wires are still cut. Don't know if that would make any diffetence?)  Probly gona bring the starter to auto store and see if they can test it.

I did not know these have a wetclutch in em so tomorrow I'll start there before running to the auto store.

So if you can get the battery or booster pack hooked up the the starter while it's in the machine and see if it turns over that way.  If it does you have a wiring issue or maybe a fried solenoid making bad contact.  If she doesn't spin over with a direct connection to the starter from a good power source something is locking up the engine.

Sounds like you are at a point where extra damage may be happening. May be time to take it in.

Well sad news today. I pulled the starter jumped it out of the machine and it works. Pulled the fan off and put a socket on it and tried to turn the crank it stuck went the other way gave a little tried back the other way and  engine spun a full rotation and locked. So I everything started coming off, pulled cylinder and sleeve #1 out and was able to see the bottom half of the connecting rod flopping around inside. Removal of # cylinder and sleeve let me move #2 piston around and pull piston #1 right off the crankshaft. Once the piston was out I found one of the connecting rod bolts broke and stuck through the transfer case. So now with a parts list and extras I'm 1500 bucks In to rebuild.

One question if anyone can answer I see 2 different part numbers online for the connecting rod that say "connecting rod Assy marked "?""  Can't find anywhere in the manual to determine which one I need.

Damn that really sucks. I don't have any info for you on the connecting rods, sorry!
