2015 800ex rough idle (new to mechanics)
« on: June 08, 2025, 08:44:21 PM »
Hi all,

Just got my first side by side a 2015 zforce 800 ex. Quick backstory the dealer replaced the oil pump but too late I guess as both heads needs to be replaced. With help just finished installing them and I believe the timing is right, it ran but idles rough and stalls, need to keep some throttle to it.

Besides general suggestions where to look I have some questions that would really help.

Does the thermostat go on cylinder 1 (rear of bike) or 2? (I think it’s a thermostat, the spring thing in the hose that connects them)

I’m getting errors on the air intake sensor, is that the sensor that sits in cylinder 1? I replaced it but no code change.

Also getting error on for manifold intake sensor, I believe this is the mass air intake sensor? I haven’t tried cleaning it yet.

Anyway thank you for reading, wasn’t really into mechanics when I was younger but starting to learn now and thankful to have father still around to teach me. If anyone can suggest things to check or replace, I’ll keep trying.

The one sensor in the center of the intake manifold is the air temp/mass airflow sensor. Clean it with only mass air flow spray cleaner...nothing else. The other two closer to the cylinders are the injectors...different code. If it is running rough it could have a leaking or stuck injector and that would also leave carbon on the O2 sensor on each exhaust so check those by pulling and leaving hooked up and turning the key on..not to the starter position. A leaking one will dribble. Just replace any bad one. If there is one also replace the fuel filter-it's behind the air box. You can see it if you pull ff the oil fill/check panel behind the passenger seat but probably can't replace it from there. You will also want to make sure there isn't ant dirt r water in the fuel tank. Oh, and check the valve lash while at it. If you need a service manual, let me know. Every owner should have one for their machine.

Thanks for the response, not sure how to reply to you specifically sorry.

Thank you I will try all that tomorrow. Just to clarify by the valve lash do you mean adjusting the clearance on the lifters? We set them with feeler gauges hopefully did it right.

Yes, valve lash is the distance between the rocker arm and the valve set with a feeler gauge after being set on TDC of the compression stroke and dead cold. You didn't ask but it's clear you need one so I will PM you a link to my service manual. Download it soon as the link will expire in 48 hours.
