Here's a pic of my latch. I think it comes out from behind the dash plastics so it may be mounted to the glove box under it some how. On the mounts, I don't know but you may get access to that area through the front hood with the storage tray out.

If it won't be much of a pain, can I get a pic of the rear of the box and the top mounts? Just would like to know the clearance in the back and how the bracket is mounted. I know I won't be able to do it exactly the same, but might point me in the right direction. I think the latch was on the bracket, because there is no sign of where it was on top of the box. I will have to come up with something. Maybe just a large o ring with a pull to keep it shut.

Not sure I can see the mounts. I may need to pull the hood, storage tray and the foam I put in that area to keep the heat out. I'll take a look underneath the dash side too.

Don't put a lot of effort into it. As i said, I will have to do some rigging to make it work and I don't want to put you out.

Well, when I look to the inside all I see is these bumps which I assume are either mounts or for the rubber strap mount:




When I wiggle the box, there is one pin that comes through the firewall that moves. The others go to other parts:



I did take the front apart but can't see much. I did push the camera back in there and see a few bolts about where the mounts are:

Looks like there is a bracket that runs across the top. the strap has two bolts through it. Thanks, this gives me some new ideas to check on. Maybe I can still make use of the pin in the rear once I get the box to fit in there.

Total failure. After trying to heat and reshape the back I ended up cutting clearance out. This was OK till I had to reattach the hand hold. The z8 must be wider because I would have to cut and move the brackets then get a z8 grab bar or fab one. On top of this I would have to find a way to bracket the top. I see no way to do this without taking all the dash plastic off and then would loose access to the fuses and relays as their won't be room to get to them through the storage compartment.

I was about to throw away the glove box I had. Without caring if this went very bad, I cut out two openings where the grab bar is. It now fits up in there. I still have to make a bracket for the top mount. I will not put anything in there that can't get wet. If you don't mind two openings in the top, it might be ok.

I found it on eBay used. I didn't want to try this with a new one.

So odd the Z6 didn't come with a box there like the Z8s...Good mod to get one though.

My guess is they put the Z6 out and didn't plan on making them for very long. They might have not wanted to build a mold because of the narrower grab bar area when they knew it was going to be replaced with newer models.
