Won't turn over and fuel pump not priming
« on: January 03, 2023, 09:00:33 PM »
Hello, my name's Robert, I'm new to this forum and new to the CFmoto as well.  Hoping somebody here can give me some insight and direction to a issue I'm having. I have a 2015 zforce 600, We just moved to Colorado from Georgia so it have been sitting for a month or so and the battery died.  I got a jump box and tried starting it and it did start but when I disconnected the cables it died and wouldn't turn over again after that.  So I bought a new battery and it still wouldn't turn over, and the fuel pump is kicking on or priming either.  All the lights on the dash are on.  So, I bought a new starter relay and installed that thinking that would be the fix and still the same.  I can however jump the starter relay and it'll turn over but won't start and no fuel pump priming.  I'm not a mechanic my any stretch of the imagination and I'm at a loss.  We got this for our 14 year old daughter just before we moved thinking she would have fun with it here and here we are.  Please if any body has any advice or insight it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Did you bump the kill switch by chance?

Fits the symptoms.

No, I've toggled the kill switch back and forth and it did nothing. The wiring diagram that come in the owners manual is shady. I'm thinking I've possibly over loaded something with the jump box but I'm not sure what or where to look.

Because it died the instant you pulled the jumpers off says the charging system can't keep up with demand. Usually because there is an open cell in the battery.. so because of that and the broken post, replace it asap. After that check that all the cables and wires are connected to the battery first...people leave one positive off all the time. Then check all the fuses in the distribution box. As for the kill switch, know they are known to have contact corrosion so keep working it and/or testing it as well as the key switch. Lastly, power surges from jumping are known to take out ECUs and some relays..including the AUX relays that control the start and fuel pump circuits so...that's your next stop.

When having a dead battery, it's always better to charge it first if possible. If you must jump it, use something that can add charge to the battery like a running vehicle and leave the jumper cables on until the battery has at least a surface charge on it. If it won't take a charge right away, replace it. CFM's electrical components are "marginal quality" at best and as such, more then other manufacturers, require stable power even more so. No roller-coaster rides on power. :)

Thanks for your responses, I'll take a look at theses things and update. I guess my biggest hope at this point is that I didn't fry the ECU.  Thanks again

Ok, so I've checked that both cables on the negative and positive side of the battery are connected, I've switched the relays around to see if that done anything and no change. There are three relays mounted to the left of the other relays that are different, they have a gold looking case,( I'll include a picture of one of them), i can't make out the marking on 2 of them, but they appear to be different from one another at least in amperage.  Does any one no what these relays control?  I'm still trying to figure out how to manually test the ignition and kill switch.  Is there a way to test the ECU, and is there anything else I should be looking at. I mentioned before that I've replaced starter solenoid, could it be bad. Doesn't appear that I can add a picture

You...need a service manual and a wiring diagram to ID wire colors and their uses. It will also show you the wires to the kill switch and which are connected when closed. If I have one...and I might..I will PM you with a link. If so, the link will be good for 48 hours so download it soon. If I don't have one, I'll post here.

Did you ever find the root cause on this issue? I am having a similar issue with my Zforce 500 - 2021. Cranks but never primes ... I get 12v to the fuel pump during the crank but never primes ... also don't think I have a spark .... relays and fuses good ... new battery ..... I am wondering if some input sensor is not letting the ECU issue the signals to prime, etc.
