I have a 2013 z6 ex sometimes under hard excelleration it sounds like theres a chain that is chattering or skipping, what could it be ? doesn't do it all the time, sometimes it will make a snapping sound and stop doing it. Could it be the belt ? Any info would be great.

That sounds odd. If you Rev it in N, do you still get the noise? There is a timing chain and they can get noisy if they need attention. I do get front shaft rattle sometimes, but that doesn't sound like the problem. Does it sound like a loose chain or a whining  gear. Bad u joint? Im just guessing at this point.

I guess I don't have any idea what to check. Maybe someone will pipe up that may have some experience with this.

My Z8 makes all kinds of odd noises that I can only guess at. Lately it had a tick when I pat the gas peddle like an injector noise except loud enough to sound like it's about to drop a valve..yeah, scary but it could also be from the exhaust flanges moving as the engine moves on its rubber mounts. I did put super-springs on all of then because they kept coming apart and now they don't rotate as easy in the cups..more like solid. See when you have something rubber mounted, you can't have rigid connections to things like..the muffler.. which is mounted to the frame. Things have to be able to move and that's why they used spring flanges, and I made them more solid. That's why I think it's those because it at a certain temp and only when I pat the gas which kicks the engine. But it's just a theory right now. I know, this has nothing to do with your issue but it points out that these things make sounds that others don't. I would check out the clutches and all the external things I could. There is always a reason for these things...just have to find it, and sometimes it's by process of elimination.

My grandfather used to say "when the noise stops and it falls off, then you will know what it was".

My 500 sometimes makes funny noises from the belt. I checked and found a 'witness mark' on the inside of the belt cover. After about 500Km it had settled down and has not touched since.
Could be a 'settling in' problem.

If it's the loose front shaft spline noise, it will go away if you put it into 4WD

finally figured it out was the front mount on the rear differential, the bolt had loosened and was allowing the diff to flex letting the knuckle on the driveshaft to rub together. It ended up ripping the mount through the frame, we built a new bracket and reinforced the mounting point, quieter than its ever been, Check your bolts. Ill post pics in a bit
