z6 front drive shaft u joints
« on: March 02, 2016, 03:38:47 AM »
I am needing to replace the ujoints in my front drive shaft. But according to alpha sports I can not get just u joints. I need to buy the whole shaft. Does anyone have experience with this before I shell out $220 for the whole shaft

heres a link to the diagram on alpha sports   http://www.alpha-sports.com/cfpart.php?part_number=9060-290100?

How many miles are on your machine?  I would imagine that you can take the old U Joint out and match it up at any decent auto parts store.

I pulled mine out to grease the sliding portion. I removed the center shaft cover than the plastic in front of the seats. I had to split the plastic to get it out. The shaft won't let you get it out. It will get covered up when you put it back together so don't worry about it. A dremel with a cut off wheel works best. Might have to remove the CVT intake duct also.  You should be able to get to the bolts on the yokes from there and wrangle it out. Might be a bracket in the way too but just unbolt it. Check it over once you have the shaft cover off and confirm the u joint is bad. The spline/telescoping portion is a loose fit and rattles at the outer tubing. This is a source of noise, see issues tread. If the joints are bad than you might be able to mesure them and find some that fit. Let us know what you find.

As long as the joints are retained in the yokes with clips and not molded-in or retained by other means you can remove them and take them to a driveline place to match them up. They will be metric but most things are these days. We have several companies here that I can go to here such as U-Joints, Inc. You should also have something you can go to as well. Even a good auto parts store may help.

Ok, shaft part number 9060-290100 is broken down in other models parts drawings. The joints are part number 7020-290130, F25x64. Sometimes you can Google the part and find it broken down in another drawing.

That link has some part numbers for some CF Moto vehicles.  Maybe you could look up the part numbers of some of the ATV's listed or the U Force and see if its the same u-joint as whats in your machine.
