A few changes to my buggy
« on: September 13, 2017, 10:28:48 PM »
I have copied a few others here and made the following changes to my buggy. I've added a CVT filter in the cab which was a simple project and cheap to do and trying to keep the dust down in the cab I have started to cover up holes starting with the 2 holes for the seatbelt attachment points directly in front of the rear wheels, I also added a pleated primary filter in the cargo box for the engine and these 2 filter changes have allowed me to completely cover the back wall including the 2 unneeded air vents behind the seats with Thermo Tec which I continued to run under the entire length of the center console, I also copied NMK and installed a boot on the emergency brake handle, I installed the Super Atv full flip up windshield which I run open 90% of the time and a rear soft window from Pacific eagle with a zipper on the center section that will allow you to ride with the clear vinyl window rolled up, I don't but it is good for trailering vs removing the whole thing, this window is extremely well made and fits the Z6 like a glove. These changes have dramatically cut down on heat, noise, and dust in the cab, my biggest noise maker now is the front drive shaft, as others have said there is a lot of play in the splines and the rattle it creates drives me nuts, the Thermo Tec helped but it is still there. I also used jack nuts for the entire rear panel and center console doing away with the plastic push rivets, I used black oxide screws and flat washers so hopefully, rust will not be an issue. I also moved the crankcase vent to the top of the air filter box and it appears that I am getting a lot less oil accumulating in the air filter box and the intake tubes, I assume this is due to the mounting position being higher and I believe that there is less vacuum on that line being in the air box as opposed to the small tubing connecting to the throttle body and being mounted before the filter the vacuum on that line should decrease if the filter gets dirty as opposed to increasing when it was after the filter.

Some really nice ideas here Vman, well executed. A pleasure to see.

Thanks Glenlivet, I posted some before and after pictures under Pictures & Videos a few days ago, it doesn't look like the same machine.

How is the weather up there any rain yet, have they opened the trails?

Here in Western BC the weather has now returned to the customary rain, overcast, clear, rain, repeat. Summer has fled and the 75 or so day rainless dry spell has ended. The Forest Service edict disallowing backroads travel in the greater part of the province has been repealed, though I read that campfires are still prohibited in a few regions that have not yet had a sufficient drenching. I am impressed you knew of the closures here, from Costa Rica.  8)

I have a neighbor who spends 6 months here in Costa Rica and the other half of the year at their place in Gibsons and friends on Vancouver Island as well, besides the news here in Costa Rica is quite limited so I try to keep up with what is going on throughout the world via the internet 10 years here and I still haven't decided whether that is a good thing or not, most Tico's seem to go through life not knowing or worrying about world news and all the what if's 90% of which never happen and the 10% that do happen they have no control over and in the end has very little effect in their everyday lives, sometimes when I've had enough concerns over all the world news I just disconnect  for a while and life gets much less worrisome, anyway I am glad to hear that things are back to normal in your part of the world, we have a rainy season here for 6 months and we are just coming into the wost of it, it came down in buckets yesterday for about 3 hours and today we had a moderate rain for about 7 hours, but it does keep things green and beautiful.
