600ex gear issues
« on: September 24, 2015, 09:03:30 PM »
So i have a brand new (bought from somone who won a contest, literally had 7 miles on it) 600ex. Rode it a few times, nothing hardcore, just a typical trail ride with some occasional trees. I noticed after one ride, a cable had come undone underneath and have absolutely no idea where it came from. Didn't notice anything it effected at the time. Then a few days later i noticed when i try to put it in low, hi, drive, etc, the shifter is off by 1 gear. i cannot go into low, since it tells me that im in hi when its on low. my question is, how do i fix this? new shifter cable? i can't find anything online on how to do this, and i really want to avoid the insane labor prices up here in alaska.

No cable. It uses a rod with ball joints on each side. Take the plastic cover off and adjust it. The is a manual here on the site, just download it and if you still need some help please let us know.

Can you just trace it and see? I think on my 800 the only cables are the throttle and the hand brake.

There are two parking brake cables attached to the lever and I have no idea what is broken. Post a picture. If you can't shift to all the gears than you still need to adjust the linkage bar.

That's not a cable...that's the diff vent tube. It goes up..somewhere so it will always be out of the water. Its a hollow tube..right?

No effect of performance. It just fell down from being tied up high somewhere. Just fine a spot high on the upper frame somewhere and zip-tie it. You should make a loop in the end so the end faces down...like a snorkel top.

All you have to do is put the transmission in neutral, loosen the jam nuts on the shift rod. Once they are loose you can turn the rod to lengthen or shorten the distance between the ball joints. Once you have it right you should hear a click as the transmission goes into gear when the shifter locks in. I'm leaving on a trip at the end of the week. If you just can't figure it out than pm me and we can set up a video chat if you have a smart phone or just a phone call. I should be able to talk you through it.
