So I bought this thing for $400...clearly needs some work...no spark.  After some fishing around I think I identified the "no spark" cause:

So now I have a new ECU coming...in the mean time I'm trying to sort out all the other "stuff"...starting with getting the fuel pump going.  It's not priming.  Yesterday with the ECU full of water the fuel pump was running, today with it disconnected (and connected after it dried out) it's not running.

Does the ECU turn the fuel pump on and off?  What safeties are in place that would prevent it from turning on when the key is turned on?

As I recall, on the old Z6s, the ECU does not turn the fuel pump on and off. It does take in some sensor data like pump power and fuel pressure. The ignition switch provides power to the fuse box as well as the two Aux power relays. Off of one..I believe.. the fuel pump and ignition circuit are powered but they run through the kill switch first..somehow. I forget on those old ones..but tell you what I'm going to do. I will PM you a link to my shop manual on those Z600. It not only had systems wiring diagrams but it also has the main wiring diagram and a decent trouble shooter...compliments of CFMoto Forum.com :)

I've gotten conflicting information here and on facebook lol

Thanks for the manual, I'm going to have to spend some time going over wiring and stuff.  This thing looks like it's spent the last four or five years outside in Texas wind and dirt...CFMoto's wiring connections were not meant for that kind of "abuse".

I don't know anything about the 2014 model year, so take this with a grain of salt.

The 2017 Z8 wiring diagram shows the ECU controls a relay that energizes the fuel pump.

I can see in the wiring diagram that the ECU is connected to that circuit but it's hard to tell if it's controlling it or sensing feedback from the circuit.  The circuit going through teh ECU doesn't seem beefy enough to be able to handle the current for the fuel circuit...there is a relay but the wiring diagram has the ECU and the "oil fuel pump" on the load side of the relay.  I may be looking at it incorrectly but I'll find out for sure on Monday with the new ECU

My preference is to make this thing work as is but if it gives me too much drama I've got a really nice Honda RC44 750cc twin I'd like to cram in there lol

For the 1017, the ECU energizes the fuel pump relay (low amperage), which triggers the contact between the power coming from the kill switch and to the fuel pump (high amperage).  Hard to imagine the 2014 being different.
