My Z8, from when I first installed an oiled foam filter it would just die when placing it in reverse and just touching the gas. And it would always start right back up. Then I found that the air temp/mass air flow sensor was coated with air filter oil from oil being atomized and pulled in. I cleaned it with the special Mass Airflow sensor cleaner and it stopped for a hundred miles or so...then started again. Checking the sensor it was covered again so I cleaned it...again. Then as a part of filter servicing I started rolling-up a wad of paper towels inside to suck-up any extra oil..cause I always use a lot to ensure every cell surface is well coated. Sense doing that the sensor hasn't gotten any oil on it and...it hasn't had the problem. It's odd...but somehow it must effect the reading the ECM gets and must reduce the injector's pulse width enough that just touching the gas leans it out enough to die (just guessing). Odder still that it's only in reverse it does this..not in any forward positions and not from taking off from a stand still in forward gears. But...it's what mine does...and that's what stopped it. Go figure.

Yes! Never did figure it out, until recently I hope.

I believe, in my case, it was due to a marginal kill switch on the dash.

I tripped over this when I hit the switch and then put it back on and the machine would not start. I rocked the switch back and forth several times until it made a good contact and started.

Lots of people have had issues with that switch.

I've replaced mine this winter with a Dorman brand switch in hope to eliminate this problem.
