Today I learned a tough lesson regarding wheel spacers.
While plowing thru this crazy snowstorm the northeastern US is currently having, I got stuck up on a rather large snow bank accidentally. When I locked my differential to get unstuck, my right front wheel literally fell off. Like it totally came apart from the hub.
Immediately I thought I had broken a shaft, joint etc, but upon inspection I realized that my 1.5” spacer had simply come loose and came off due to vibration caused by my large tread mud tires.
Thankfully, because I was on top of a snow bank, no damage occurred at all and the “fix” was easy, even while getting buried in snow. No bent studs or anything.
Moral of the story - Loctite your dang wheel spacer lugs!
If I had done even the slightest research, I’d have known this.
Take care
