Temperature gauge
« on: November 19, 2023, 06:40:28 AM »
Hello,

How do I get the temperature gauge up when the machine is running?
That is all what shows.
Usually there's bars that I know of that shows the guage. It shows when you turn the ignition but as soon as you turn it on it's not there?
Cfmoto 450

Thanks

Are you saying that when you turn the key to the ON position you see the gauge but as soon as you start it it goes away? Try this: from the off position turn the key to ON and verify the gauge is there. Then just bump the starter..not enough to start it and let it drop back to the ON position. If still there then start it and if now gone its voltage-related and likely a problem with a circuit board in the dash. Might also accomplish the same thing by putting a battery charger on the battery that puts out 14+ volts. Worth the test.

Hi NMKawierider,

Thanks for the reply.
So I turn the ignition on but don't start the quadbike and it'll show every symbol including the gauges for about 3 seconds(picture attached) then the temperature gauge disappears and only shows the temp icon to the side.
It's stumbling me! I'm good with cars and vans etc but this is the first quad I've worked on.
I've gave the quad a full service and I was told it overheats and the fan doesn't come on so I changed the thermosensor and now that works. From what I've been told the temp gauge hasn't been showing the past 6 weeks.
It's not something I'm use to working on so  I'm not sure what to look out for. With it being Chinese built I'm hoping it's something simple! Haha.

Thanks

You can try replacing the temp sensor on the engine. Not sure if that will help or is the problem but it's cheap and easy enough to try.

Looks like the fuel gauge does away as well. Sounding more like a bad dash.

Thanks NMKawierider,

It's just strange how the H for hot and C for cold is missing too. I'd have thought if it was the sensor it'll still show the H and C but no bars.
I'll try a new sensor also. If you've got any more suggestions it'll be greatly appreciated haha.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks,

After about 3 seconds that's what appears.

I have a 2020 Cforce 450L.  In my case all the lights in the dash work fine.  It takes a extremely long to get the bars on the temp gauge to show on the dash, it will only happen after the engine has been running for quite a long time (maybe 5 minutes or longer).  Im sure it gets up to working temp but the bars on the dash take long to show.    My radiator fan stopped working propperly, it was turning on but not blowing strong enough to cool the engine.  The fan was replace under warranty pretty soon after I got the machine.  With that replaced the temp are now kept cool.  I will time it tomorrow and see how long it takes to get the bars on the dash. The normal operating temperature for my machine is to show 2 bars on the temp gauge.

The fuel gauge is a bit.....temperamental.  It works fine as a reference but is not calibrated or precise at all.  It show a full tank but it goes down in a hurry and will show an empty tank prematurely even when there is still about half a tank of gas if I open the lid.  It is something that I learned to live with and dot trust much at all.

Another thing is the speedometer which is off and marks a faster speed than a GPS App on my phone.  It show about 6kph faster that the GPS.  I don't know if this is something that can be calibrated or programmed for a different size tire.  I have asked the dealer and never got a straight answer.

I will report back tomorrow with pictures of my dash.

Thanks tinbarreiro,

That would be helpful if you could let me know. Does your display say H for hot and C for cold once turned on then the temperature bars rise?
As you can see on this one I'm working on it only shows the temperature icon next to where the guage should be.
ive gave the quad a good ride and ticking over. the fan cycles on and off but literally no bars appearing and also no display of H for Hot and C for cold.

Thanks

There is what I found:
-All lights are display in the dash for about 3 seconds (picture 1).
-Temp disappears completely right after (picture 2).
-After 12 mins of idling still no temp reading (picture 3).  Weather was 65 degrees.
-Finally after 14 mins of idling the temp is displayed with a "C" (picture 4).
-16 mins idling and a fist bar appears on top of the "C" (picture 5).
-19 mins idling and second bar appears on the temp gauge (picture 6). It sits at that temp all day long.
Went for a ride and the "H" never appears.

Hi tinbarreiro,

Your a life saver! thanks for the info. i know what to look out for now.
So the dash does not show H and C until it reaches the temperature. then rises with the bars.
I'll let it idle for 20mins on the weekend and time it and report back if my C comes on then the bars rise. I'll time it also.
I know when i let it idle for a fair few minutes the fan was coming on and off but no temperature was reading, but i do not know
how long i had it idling.

Thanks again for the info tinbarreiro.
