Engine braking
« on: June 23, 2024, 08:01:12 AM »
I have a 2021 450L bought new with 2.6k on the clock. Returning home from friends I was travelling down a steep hill and released the throttle. There was an awful noise which disappeard as soon as I opened up the throttle, the noise returned as soon as I shut the throttle off. I managed to get home by using manual braking and the throttle slightly open. Any ideas what this could be and any suggestions would be welcome. It will be going to a mechanic soon but there are no CF moto service agents on the island I live on. It would be great to pass on any info to him when I drop it in.

Possible the one bearing is bad . Do a you tube search CF Moto one way bearing. I deleted the one way bearing on mine.

Hey yamahadm250 so you dont have engine braking at all?  What did you replace the one way bearing with? just a normal bearing?

My 600 has almost as much engine braking without the bearing. Below about 5 mph it doesn`t have any engine braking. Look on youtube for cf Moto one way bearing. Several videos about replacing or deleting it.

Thanks yamahadm250 I'll keep that in mind if I ever had problems with my bearing.

Hi, I think I'm having the same problem. I started getting a metallic grinding noise. Everything was working fine until it got louder and made some clicking noises. Now I feel like I have no engine brake. I'll look into getting a one-way bearing for my CFMOTO. Thanks.

Hey Xarlio the one-way bearing is kinda expensive.  Be sure the one you buy comes with a tapered or conical ring to let you install the new bearing; it is really difficult to do it without this ring....take a look a the photo.

Thanks. I don't know if it comes with the ring. I ordered the bearing on eBay, which isn't a one-way bearing. I don't think it will. I'll wait and see when I receive it.

Don't worry, since you did not get a one-way bearing you do not need the ring to install it.  Installation is going to be a freeze then.
