I need to really press hard on the brake to be able to shift my 2016 400s into reverse. Does anyone know how to adjust this so it owuld need less pressure, or disable to need for the brake altogether? I'd still stop and use the brake, it is just that it takes way to much pressure to release the shifter so I can go into reverse. Thanks for any help! I searched the web but could not find anything on it.

There is a manual here at the top of this category. Download it if you haven't already. I seem to recall a cable of some sort attached to the foot brake? Could be wrong but give it a look.

Unnfortunately I went through the service manual and could not find anything that helped. Do you know if this is like a honda clone where I could use the same instructions that honda owners use? Thanks for your help.

Gota be some kind of cable that just needs adjustment. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

It's a good thing & not hard to find & adjust. The adjustment is by the foot brake, it's a little mickey mouse. You will find a spring connected to a cable that leads to pin in the shifter @ the console. You can look down thru the shifter gate & see the pin....myself I've poked down thru their to release then pin.

Thanks guys! I fixed it. I actually adjusted it so I barely need to touch the brake to shife to reverse and park. A little more adjustment and I would not need to touch the brake at all to shift. Here is how I did it:

Removed right side side panel and foot rest. (May have been able to remove the panel behind the wheel but it was a pita so didn't)

This gave easy access to the adjustment cable. See photo. It is right in front in the circled area.
I adjusted bith the top and bottom. Bottom: loosen botton lock nut (1). Then turn shaft counter clockwise as you look down on it. It does not take many turns to have a major affect. Tighten the lock nut when done. Top? Same thing, but loosen the top lock nut (2), hold the shaft, and turn the top. Test, tighten locknut when done.
Reassemble bike. You may need 2 people because it is a pita to get back together.

There is a lockout poker at the shifter side of the cable, remove the left side black engine panel, if you look you behind the shifter assembly you will see the cable that locks out the shift movement, release pressure on jam nut , then unscrew the cable and you will not need to step on the brake to shift. look up while epushing the brake and you will see the nut you are looking for , it's about 1/2 long.

Awesome thanks....Took my 2020 Cforce 450L for service and the adjusted the brakes and made it almost imposible to shift in and out of park/reverse.  They messed up with that cable on the foot rest for no good reason at all.  Now with this info I am able to re-adjust it to not need that much pressure any more.  Big thanks and amazing a post this old still helped in 2023
