400s Coolant leak
« on: June 12, 2019, 11:10:07 PM »
Hi all

My 2017 400s has a coolant leak on the upper coolant hose, where the aluminum couples to rubber. One of those pressure clamps is currently on there. The coolant is leaking from under the rubber, like it’s simply loose.
It’s in a horrible spot, next to the fuel tank, behind the upper frame and next to impossible to access. I had to remove the entire wheel well, side body panel, clutch panels, etc. What a pain in the rear.
Anyway, since I don’t see any damage and the hose looks okay, my plan was to replace the cheap pressure clamp with a screwed hose clamp.

Anyone see problems with this?

I’ve been having issues with thermoswitches. I’ve replaced the original one already, which didn’t last 2 days. I’ve ordered another and it should be here any day. I’m thinking the rise in temp may have increased the pressure in the system and it leaked from the weakest point.

Sound right?

Thanks all

No problem on the clamp. Had to replace a few myself. If you go through another thermoswitch, replace the relay with it next time. Some relay coils were pulling too many milliamps and were taking out thermoswitches.

The space in this machine to work is ridiculous and quite difficult, so I ended up simply adding the new clamp next to the old pressure clamp instead of removing the old one. It shouldn’t be a problem, just a little frustrating.
Seems like it staunched the leak too.

The new sensor is installed now also and the fan works again once it gets to temp. I’m not 100% convinced the other one is faulty so I’m keeping it around. I’ll order that fan relay right now and replace it.

Looks like I can probably put her back together and actually ride again. She was out of commission all this time while I hunted down the elusive leak. I was afraid it was a warped head after a while. Thank goodness it wasn’t.

Thanks for your help
