Hey guys, so a few weeks ago I went for a ride with a couple buddies that had Can Am Outlander 2ups and we were riding in some hot weather (35* celisus) and I noticed whenever we stopped and shut the machines down, their fans would keep running and my Zforce 1000 fan would shut off with the key? Has anyone changed the wiring configuration so it's directly wired to power so when the engine is hot the fan will stay on until cool enough to shut down, even with the power off wired of the thermoswitch?

Also on that trip I had some over heating issues, the fan seems to stop working and wouldn't come on again at all. I thought perhaps the fan was running when I crossed some deeper water and the extra resistance popped a fuse.  I do believe on the way home the machine went into "limp" mode a few times (at least I hope so..!). Anyways, after getting back to the cottage and hosing out the rad from the front and rear, and cleaning things up as much as I could, I still had the check engine light and fan wouldn't come on even after bringing to operating temp. I rechecked this the next morning after cooling over night, and same situation. Check engine light, no fan at operating temp..

So anyways I was due for service so it went to the dealer and they said they cleaned out the fan and there was no check engine and everything worked fine. I'm a bit suspicious given that I sprayed out the fan and rad, and physically checked there was nothing obstructing the fan.. and it would spin free.

Has anyone had a check engine light "disappear"? Are codes stored in the computer?

Over the winter I'd like to put a switch in the cab for the fan. I'm thinking constant on, off (for when hitting some mud holes) and switched but bypassing the ignition switch.
Has anyone done anything like this?  I also read something about the coolant from factory being weak.. is this a common thing?
Can someone point me to the wiring diagram I would need to be able to do this?
Lastly, would doing something like this void warranty?
I can't understand why CFMoto doesn't have the thermoswitch wired to constant power to cool the machine even when not running..

A couple of things to note. They don't use thermoswitches anymore. The fact that the MIL light came on and the fan wouldn't tells me that the temp sensor..which among other things, tells the ECU when to provide a ground for the fan relay has a problem. If the relay had a problem it wouldn't show up as an error code. YES, any modification to any operational system will void the warranty. But, having the fan run after the key is off won't cool the engine as no pump is circulating the coolant when not running. You would only be cooling what's in the radiator so..not a big deal.

Every fluid that comes in these machines is junk, especially the coolant...that stuff smelled like rotten crab meat when I drained it and was very thick and slimy...I would change all of the fluids out for good quality fluids for your piece of mind.

Be careful with water... My 2018 is now sitting at the dealer and CF-Moto refuses to honor the warranty on it due to evidence of water being in the engine.. I NEVER have run in water over my door openings ...Mine overheated bad on the road back to cottage after a 3hr trail ride.. puked coolant out of the overflow... So I towed it back to my cottage.. it would then overheat just on idle... it was hard to start and sounded clacky when it did start... I parked it and called my dealer.

2 weeks later I was finally able to get it into the dealer (i washed it beforehand so water could have gotten into the air intake during this) a few weeks later I am told there was evidence of water inside (rusty) and one of the rod bearings had seized and spun on the crank.

So CF-Moto wont fix it under warranty even though it was going in for a transmission recall that required them to tear it all apart anyways... I am now stuck with an expensive lawn ornament that I only bought in 2019 and has only 1400kms on it!

I am at a loss of what to do as I dont feel I should have to pay out of my pocket to fix this machine with their so-called "INDUSTRY BEST WARRANTY"

I have had other issues since day 1 with this machine.... Loss of power (BOGGING) several times, Transmission popping out of gear countless times even after delaer adjustment, Fan Fuse blown 2 times.

Lesson learned:  Warranty is only good if a Manufacturer feels like honoring it!

I understand what you are saying, but the main factor to the cause of failure is due to water ingestion, therefore warranty dose not apply.

That is unbelievable that you are unwilling to even try and come to some sort of solution... I have no idea how water got inside and it could not have been that much regardless... I am really dissatisfied with your response to this matter... I was really excited when I purchased this unit and now I regret it whole heartedly...  I can assure you that this situation was not due to negligence and was caused by some other reason..

What good is the so-called best warranty in the industry if you just dismiss it on the judgment of a few pictures and an assumption...

I would have great things to say to people about cfmoto had this gone differently... Now unfortunately I think things will be quite different..

I haven't seen it firsthand just going by what the Dealer said to me... He said the Air Filter was wet and Falling apart, there was rusty spots in the engine and a bearing was rusty and spun on the crank supposedly... They emailed pictures to CfMoto and they said Water Intrusion and go F myself.. 

I am so disappointed with this machine at this point and their unwillingness to help out..

Well all CFM knows is what the dealer told them and showed pictures of. No one will warranty a failure due to drowning so I think it's in your best interest to ensure it is in fact your engine...and machine they took photos of.

And for everyone else, make sure you have your engine serial numbers written down somewhere to compare with.

From the description (filter wet and  falling apart) I would assume that we are talking about the factory paper air filter, that the air box was not sealed tightly (CRITICAL!), and that water got into the air box and then into the engine via the intake system as the rear tire pushed water against and into the air box. "Up to the door opening" is more than sufficient for this to happen.

I've seen other motos puke coolant when they overheat (Mount Washington ride, fan failure), and spinning a bearing when overheated is not uncommon, especially #2.

A spun bearing would certainly sound "clacky".

What concerns me is that there was no description of water in the oil, which would have been the very first indicator. Even if an engine ingests water, it's not a big deal if it simply steams up and passes out the exhaust. Anything more than that would likely stall the engine.

It takes time for rust to form, especially in the presence of oil. I would suggest that the weeks delays in getting it to the dealer and them opening up the motor is time enough for rust to form.

I would want to know what caused the overheating, as that is the likely reason why the bearing spun. Fan failure? Coolant loss? Head or other gasket failure? Clogged radiator? Pump failure?  Overheating when idling, even with a spun bearing, is an indication of cooling system failure of some type.

I totally agree... I have never stalled it out in water and it always made it back to camp... If it ingested water it was minimal at best as I drove it out of the trail system that day (approx 6-8 miles) at a pretty good pace without issue until I got it going faster down the roadway and it puked its coolant out and overheated. So im inclined to think the overall issue was something else and the dealer and cfmoto are just sticking to water in engine..   

The issue is your mechanic.

He needs to think beyond the superficial evidence and think pragmatically about the entire situation.

You need to get the following answered:

What did the oil look like? (If clear and uncontaminated, then the wet filter is meaningless.)

I'd be very interested in seeing the pictures that were sent to CFMoto.

You should get a copy of all the info they sent to CFMoto.

CFMoto is only following the bread crumbs that the mechanic put in front of them.

I have asked for the photos and all correspondence they had with CFMoto Canada... will post them if and when i get them

Sorry to hear of your issues TheKrazyOne.. I'm definitely going to think twice before hitting any puddles too deep.

I'm having issues with my 2018 Zforce 1000 with the fan not coming on and the machine over heating for the second time. The first time it happen it was a fuse and worked fine for a while after, until recently hitting some water again and the same situation. The fan wouldn't come on and the machine would start to over heat. I checked the fuse and it wasn't blown this time, so I'm not sure what the issue was. I called the dealer thinking it may be the fan relay, and the dealer said it's the same relay as the one next to it and to swap and see if that corrects the issue. They also said it's possibly a loose ground or the fan motor itself.
My machine has 500kms on it and I've had a few issues early on, but nothing major. This has been a bit of a mystery though.
I did hit a bit of water, but nothing crazy deep. One time the water splashed over the top of the hood and I figured perhaps the resistance on the fan popped the fuse again, but nope.
Just curious where you are located in Northern Ontario and which dealer you are dealing with if you don't mind me asking.
I also noticed some condensation in my headlights.. These should be completely sealed, correct?
