Question on a spec in the Service Manual
« on: August 01, 2019, 02:10:40 PM »
Could anyone (NMKawirider) tell me if these specs are in Millimeter's or Inches?  In the attached picture on "Valve clearance (cold engine)", is the .06 inches or millimeters for the Intake Spec?

Thanks in advance!!

*Edit: Why the picture is upside down is beyond me. It opens right side up on my PC. Lol!!

Millimeters. And I don't know why the pic is upside down. Has to be something in the header (file data).

You can convert that to inches(thousands) with any converter like this:  https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=millimeters+to+inches

Hey, thanks a ton!!  My feeler guages have the mm and inch readout on each one.  I just wasn't sure which measurement the book went by.

Is there anywhere that I can read up on clutch adjustments?  Is it a specific brand thing or do all the clutches adjust the same?  That's just something that I have never learned.  I've got 30" tires on mine so I figure it could use a little clutch adjustment.

Most all CVT systems sense torque and load somewhat the same but there are many different ways of tuning as there are lots of different designs. Most all CFM's are the same in that they preload the secondary with the torsional action of ...well..twisting-up a spring...where other compress a spring or use some kind of levered flyweights. The primaries are also all very similar on these as they use a set of rollers or aftermarket sliders that get slung-out by centrifugal force against a cam plate closing the sheaves on the belt. The weights of those along with the preloaded secondary spring against the loads..being the weight of the vehicle and the rotational mass of the tires and other un-sprung weight...and the terrain you ride in like mud, sand, hills..ect  against the power/torque output of the engine is what you want to tune. But ..all this can be made simple by asking what others did that have done what you have with the same machine. I'll guess for you: Even though you have a 1000, I'll bet with 30s it would love B2 on the secondary and a set of 24gram Dr. Pulley sliders in the primary. But lets see what others have done...with good results. :)

Now that's what I've been seeing posted (B2 stuff, sliders).  But that's the thing, I have no idea what any of that means.  I can learn it because I do all of my own mechanic work (all the way up to rebuilding the transmission in my 6.0 powerstroke truck).  And I don't expect you to type up a book or anything but is there anywhere that I can go to read up on what the B2 and sliders are? I understand that it has a primary (drive) portion and a secondary (driven) portion and of course a belt.  But that's all I know. Lol!

By the way, got those valves adjusted yesterday and it's now mint...

Best thing is use the internet to learn about CVT systems. YouTube as well. As for clocking and other info we have a lot of info in our How To section even with videos...one is mine. In the meantime, here one that may help you understand CVT systems:
