New buggy is home
« on: September 19, 2019, 07:38:00 PM »
Went to pick up my buggy today. Found a left over 18 for 12,995 Canadian plus tax. Was 5k less than a RZR900S. I took it for a little rip. Has lots of power, seems like it's going to be pretty comfortable. I like the mirrors and the dash is nice as well. Don't like how it sling mud into the cabin like crazy. It also makes a metal on metal clunk in the rear. I think it's doing it when the suspension is coming to full extension after hitting a bump. I'm going to go over it with a fine tooth comb before  I put any more miles on it. The dealer told me that they have a new air filter but I'm going to replace it with the uni-filter. Will report back with updates as I get deeper into this machine.

Nice. Mud flaps on the front fenders will take care of a lot of the mud.

I just ordered the door inserts from Rayco so hopefully that will help some.

Congrats man, they're a blast!  I have the same machine in red, bought new this April when they put the 2018s on sale.  Mine clunked in the rear as well and my dealer ended up swapping my rear shocks with newer style ones from a 2019 Z1000.  That got rid of the noise, ALTHOUGH, when I took the shocks off to take them in to swap them, I also removed the sway bar and in the process I think I discovered that the sway bar mount bushings were a bit loose (bolts were tight, but the bar had some play in the rubber bushings that wasn't noticeable while the ends were connected to the a arms), so I kinda wonder if that is part of the clunking I had.  I've thought about putting the swaybar back on to try it.  Just something for you to check out.

As for the mud getting in, that was a major issue I also had so I made some mudflaps for the front fenders that hang down about 4" below the plastic fenders and that completely eliminated the wet, muddy thighs.  I see you're getting doors so probably won't be necessary.  I like the openness of these doors, now that the mud stays off me.

Anyways, enjoy it and take care of it, regular maintenance etc, and it'll be a great toy!

So I finally had the time to go over the machine today. I can say that this is put together way better than my 20,000$ arctic cat sled. I only found a couple of clamps that took a turn or two to fully tighten. I couldn't find one loose bolt on the entire machine. I have 37kms on it now. It doesn't seem to be clunking anymore. I didn't realize that these don't have a front sway bar. I installed a few chunks of pool noodle behind the dash as the cabin heat will burn the hair off your legs. I'm going to build a deflector to direct the fan discharge out towards the bottom and put some heat reflective tape on the firewall and around the gas pedal/steering shaft hole. I took a look at the air filter and even though they say it's a new one it still looks like a piece of junk to me and it has zero oil on it. I can't see how this would work long term. I think this thing is going to be an amazing toy that should last a long time.

Don't drive another foot with that POS stock airfilter. It will let 40 microns and less sized trash through. Get the Unifilter and the best oil you can. Most of us use Maxima FAB1 and it's cleaner.

I totally agree about the air filter. I put the uni, a outerwear prefilter over it and a outerwear prefilter on the intack as soon as I got it home. I thank that is one of the weakest parts of the buggy. But with a little bit of attention it will be ok.

I have the uni here I just haven't had a chance to pick up the oil for it yet. I have some parts coming on Tuesday and I hope to install them all at once. Thanks for all the info you provide on here.

Nothing fancy yet just door inserts, half windshield and a bluetooth stereo. Going to pull a link on the rear sway bar to see if I like it. I would like to ad a 2-3" lift kit but I'm not sure which one will work.

Jmo. Get the full windshield that flips up. That’s what I got. It gives you options. Jmo.

I already ordered the windshield. That's all I had on my old RZR and loved it. I put the Rayco door inserts in tonight and they leave a bit to be desired fit wise but I will reserve final judgement once I test them out.
