I am using 5w40 Rotella T6 synthetic in my 1000.  Prior to that I had bought a CFMoto oil change kit that came with 4 quarts of 0w40 synthetic (not sure who makes it) and the filter but it was pricey at nearly $100CAD, and Rotella is a well known and trusted oil.  Got a 5L jug for under $45 and picked up a filter at my dealer for $20.  $30 cheaper and I get an extra quart.

I have seen the Rotella 5w-40 and the 15w-40 both highly suggested. I have my first 300 mile Oil Change coming up and not sure which one to use.

Weather wise lows 30 degrees to 85 degrees as a high,Thinking maybe 15w-40?

I ended up using Yamalube, that is what the dealer I purchased it from recommended.

Just bought some Motorex Formula 4T Semi Synthetic to do my first service. Meets a lot of specifications and comes highly recommended in the UK. JASO MA2, SL, SJ, SH and SG  8)

I thought you shouldn't use synthetic during break-in?

Shouldn't as it won't allow the needed wear-in...but maybe a "Semi Synthetic" is OK for the first oil change as by about 200 miles most if not all the break-in is complete.

Did the first service at 160 miles and noticed a couple of things. There were quite a lot of very small particles on the magnetic sump plug. I wiped them off in lines across a clean towel and they were very fine and uniform in size, so it looks like most of the break in has gone nicely The other thing I noticed was that the oil inside the filter cover was like sludge. I hope this was just a characteristic of the running in oil. Cleaned it all out before reassembly.
