Do you mean "Grinds"? If so, the one-way bearing in the primary also used as an idler is known to fail. When this happens it siezes-up and the belt rotates the transmission between gears. Check this first.

Oh for sure either the shifter alignment needs adjustment...or you have some warn parts on the shifter rod...or the shifter fork inside the transmission is bent. Do this first: Loosen the lock nut on the shifter knob and screw it down one more turn. This will disable the shift gate's detent lock. Now the only detent is from the transmission. Try it like you did in the video. If it stops doing it, align the shifter by adjusting the shaft. If it still does it, then the problem is in the transmission...sorry. Means someone at some time shifted it while it was still moving or with engine power on.

I have the same issue as in video. I will try the know adjustment and see if that works. If not I will have to try adjusting the rod. I am new to this machine so still figuring things out.

I had the same issue with my 2018 Z1000 grinding between gears and the dealer repaired until warranty. If I remember correctly there was a recall. Contact your dealer for more info.
