Anyone else have an issue starting in the cold? My stalls 7-8 times when it's cold out. Can't see it running at all once it gets really cold.

I think there is a recall to reflash the ECM.

Is that what the recall is for?  I've heard about a recall on some 1000's for reflashing the ECM but I can't seem to find much info about what the issue is.  Mine works great, but it does take about 3 tries before it'll stay running when it's colder out.  It'll start fine, then die a couple seconds later.  More often than not, when I'm starting it for the first time of the day I'm usually standing beside it and just reach in, as I like to let it warm up a bit first.  I asked the dealer about it and they said if mine were affected I'd get a letter from CF Moto, but nothing yet.

So I put mine in the shop tonight and it started and ran like a champ at 10 degrees C. Anything around 0 or below and it stalls over and over. I don't think they have the cold start table right on this thing.

Cold start mapping is poor on all models, I don't know why it is such a big deal for them to get right. I tune LS motors as a hobby & will spend extra time to get cold start, idle & off idle as good as it can be. It's the details  :) that separate's them from the big players.

2019 800's have the same issue. I had my ecu replaced under warranty.

i have a 2019 zforce 1000 had it 6 months.  If it sits over night it will take 6 to 7 times to start.  It does not matter what temp it is.  I just got it back from dealer and they found nothing wrong with anything.  they did put a little leaner oil in and not it only takes 2-3 times to start.  not happy.  Plus, they worked on it for three hours and said non of it was covered under warranty.   They checked all systems and they were fine.   any info would be great!!

You need to place a volt meter just after the main fuse (which is still probably under the drover's seat in the rear covered compartment) and take a reading while cranking the starter. If it falls below 11 volts, tale a reading before the fuse..even at the battery is OK. If it stays above 12 volts, you have one of those bad fuse holders of which there were hundreds and have it replaced. All the operational systems like ECM, coils...etc are powered from that line and some things like the coils and ecm have an issue functioning at or below 11 volts. So give it a check. May not be your problem but it's something to check.

Do as suggested insuring the battery voltage is holding. The cold starting mapping is bad for 1000's & they start poorly when cold, I highly doubt CFMOTO has corrected that.....hopefully they have  :(

Our climate in BC Canada goes below 0*C during the winter & the 1000's struggle to start.

Agreed...they did have some cold-weather mapping issues as well.

mine did have a rough time starting in the cold a couple times, but i've come to just cycle the key and kill switch about 4 times and just wait until the pump stops priming. I don't really know if its actually what the problem is, but it seems to give it a better chance of staying running when I do start.

Do you have the right oil on your machines thats made for handlong cold starts ? From my experience it does a small improvement on cold starting.

When i didn't have an oil that was made for handling cold starts so much i noticed if it was cold it might die once and then start and ran as it should. With my fully synthitic oil (10w50) thats can this is never a "problem" any more. I have started in -20c and it youst started and ran fine. If your oil is thicj when it's cold it makes it harder for the machine to stay running. So it may make a small improvement but in some cases above it's sound likes something else is the big problem.

Let the fuel pump pump preasure bofore starting (wait until the gets silent then it's has preasure) and then start.

Should always let the fuel pump prime to a stop before starting when cold. Also gives the 'brain box' time to sort itself out too.

I agree. Fuel injectors work much better with full pressure and the ECM takes a second to process the all the data from..especially the air temp sensor to set the appropriate injector pulse width. Just wait a second or two after the pump shuts off when cold.
