2018 Zforce 1000 battery relocate
« on: November 08, 2021, 01:42:28 PM »
Hey guys, I'm in the process of moving my battery under the driver's seat and ran into two small issues I'm hoping someone could help with.

1) The shielded wire from battery to what I believe is the starter solenoid (just above battery mounted to upper subframe) wire was severally pinched between subframe rails, and I had no choice but to cut it. It appears to be shielded 8g wire.  Do I have to use a shielded wire for replacement, or could I get away with an 8 AWG regular stranded copper wire, wrapped in wire loom? I'm not sure the significance of the shielding on the factory wire..

2) When I disconnected the battery and removed the wires off the terminals, there is one wire I'm wasn't sure if it came off the + or - post. I'm pretty certain it was + but wanted to confirm. It's the green wire with black stripe, where two green/blk strip come together to one terminal.

For those of you that did the relocate.. what did you do with the frame work that held the battery near the rear tire? Cut it out, or leave it?

Thanks!

Shielded means it has a layer of suppression material like foil to reduce the entrance or exit of radio frequencies that may effect a signal like a coax cable, antenna cable or spark plug wire. To my knowledge there is no reason for either battery cable to to have any of this type of shielding. Some manufacturers do wrap the strand bundles in a plastic shield to prevent intrusion into the strands of the outer insulation when applied. That may be what you see...so no, it's not necessary. One thing you do want to take into consideration is the added length means additional resistance so you might want to go one size larger with the replacement. Probably not necessary though.

I will try and look-up that mystery wire so don't hook it up yet. Usually only red and red/white wires to to the positive terminal. Blacks, greens and browns to the negative so hold on.

Most people cut out all that extra battery-related framing so they can pull the belt cover off easy if needed.

OK per the wiring diagram there are NO green wires on the positive side of the battery however, there is a Green/Black and a Green together on the neg side so...there you go. See here:
