2018 Z1000 exhaust temp?
« on: June 27, 2022, 02:23:13 PM »

HI guys, so my machine was in the dealer for some warranty work and I went to pick it up today and noticed the idle speed seemed high (1600 initially then dropped to around 1450RPM) and most concerning was the exhaust/muffler temp. I took the machine for a test drive at the dealer to get it up to operating temp (3 bars on the temp gauge) and the tech was seeing 700* on the muffler near the tip.

The machine only has 1000kms on it so I don't think anything in the muffler is clogging it just yet, but not sure.

The machine was in for a warranty repair oil leak at the front of the engine near the oil lines. The machine had to have the case replaced, so the engine came out for the repair and it seems when it was reinstalled on of the clips holding the wire loom just above the license plate was missed and the wiring sat on the heat shield of the muffler. I had the machine down a trail and it ran like crap low speed and mid range seemed to be "bogging" but if you stomped on it it would pull fine. I was about 5kms from the cottage when I guess the wiring harness melted through and I lost my dash lights, the engine ran like crap and it would only start in P or N, many times dying when shifting into H or R. It was a challenge getting home.  While unloading the machine at the dealer the power steering was intermittent as well, I'm sure related to the electrical.

Anyways, the dealer repaired the wiring harness and noticed one of the injectors wasn't firing properly so replaced it. This didn't seem to fix the problem, so they considered swapping the ECU but ended up not needing to. After working on it further, they seemed to have it running not bad now other than a high idle and extreme heat from the exhaust.

The tech said he was concerned about the exhaust temp as well as a couple other numbers he recorded while scanning the machine, and sent an email to CFmoto with the specs for further direction.

When I get the specs I'll drop here..

Thanks

Here are screen shots of the readings from my 2018 Z1000.

Anything stand out here to explain why my exhaust sounds "funny' (almost a popping sound) and is hotter than Hades, hitting 704* read with a heat gun aiming at the muffler just next to the outlet?

Thanks!
