Seat mounts.
« on: April 01, 2018, 06:30:31 AM »
I hope this category covers the Fforce Z550 EX efi as well.

Having had one seat pull out the brass M6 threaded inserts from the spacer bar I was wondering if it's just a European problem or if the US models have the same set up of a wedge shaped plastic spacer between the seat base and the mounting frame, the one that fits into two loops at the front and a clip at the back?

I was thinking of swapping that spacer out for a slider/runner and spacer (for the tilt angle).

Any thoughts anyone?

Have not had that happen..yet on my Z8 but have had the screws out a few times playing with riser bars and such. Others have adapted the Polaris 800 seat bases with adjusters to theirs.

Fixed the seat bolt problem.

On the narrow part of the 'wedge' I ground away a little so a pan head screw would clear and then fitted a M6 Pan head screw and large diameter washer from the top side through the insert with about 1/2" of thread showing. The wider part of the 'wedge? is fine, lots of room. then after fitting the 'wedges' to the seat in the normal way, (recommend using normal M6x20mm allen bolts as the original ones are crap) and then bolted the base to the wedges with the original washers and M6 nylok nuts, SOLID!

Yet more loose seat bolts, will have to replace all crap OEM screws with decent allen bolts and spring washers. so 88 M6 x 30 allen bolts please.  :-\

Also just had out FOURTH rear caliper burn out, this time a new seal would not cure it as the cylinder is warped and still pissed out fluid so all new at over $300 a go.ouch!

Seat belt buckels jamming a lot too, I have now fitted a belt extension which is just a buckle and a tang, so after getting the jammed one out I pop in a extension and that cures that, the original buckles are too low and collect all the crap from the side of the seat goes straight down the slot. the extensions put the slot above the seat edge as well as being strip-able to clean.

Sasumi sprimgs (70mm) on the exhaust have solved that problem and just in case I will be fitting a 'loose' wire retainer on one position so if all three springs do go it will not mean the joint parting and a $20 cone gasket getting lost, again.

All 22 seats have had the screws changed for M6 x 25 mm stainless steel bolts and spring washers, problem is you cannot tighten the screws with a 3mm Allen key. The spring washers on ALL bolts had opened out to a C shape and useless.

Do you have part numbers and a link or website you used to purchase the springs and gasket?   Lost my springs this weekend.

I'll look when in workshop in next couple of days and let you know. I do know they are 7cm long Japanese ones but name eludes me at the moment.

Regarding seat mounts; one came back off tour today with the seat loose, it had not been unrated, the rest are still tight, proves the point.

I bought Moose 70mm springs but they were not cheap. I found after that the OEs were soft enough I could cut some off and re-loop the ends. So far those that I did that too are holding. Of course the Moose springs are as well...lol

70 mm fit perfectly.   The Moose 70mm springs are very expensive.  Hopefully the ones I purchased will last and not fall off.  Time will tell.
