differential fluid leak
« on: August 30, 2017, 11:21:18 PM »
Hello,
It seems like I am having problem one after another. Went on a hunting trip last 3 weeks ago came back home and had to replaced my right rear shocks I was amazed that my rear shock gave with having 500 miles on my cfmoto uforce 800, just this week found out my 12 volt cigaret plug was not working. With the help on this forum I was able to find the blown fuse. And today I noticed a puddle underneath the front diff I thought it was just water but when I touch it, was diff oil. I think that was all of the oil from the differential cannot really tell where it is coming from. Once again I am asking for some help on how to fix this problem.
I would like to say thank you for all the help.

About all you can do if you can't see where it's coming from is wipe it down or degrease it then find the leak, or maybe a crack. Check the mounting locations for cracks as well. Should also still be under warranty at 500 miles.

I had a CZORCE 400 front diff leak that was somewhat difficult to find. As mentioned it's helpful to clean it up, I used brake clean.

The servo that engages the front diff "lock" uses an o'ring to seal it to the case. It's not the same part as your UF, same idea & it maybe that simple.

Hello,
Got a chance today in cleaning all the gear oil and looking for the leak. Found out I have a hole in the front diff housing, what kind of fix can i do with this and how hard will it be to replaced a front diff housing, and even if I do replace the housing I am afraid that this will happen again. What do you think the cause of the hole. Could you guys please help me out with this.
There is no dealer close in Anchorage the only dealer in about 6 to 7 hrs drive away in Fairbanks. Thank you again.

Oh boy...that's clearly from the inside out so something has happened inside. It will need to be replaced...either by you or a dealer. Hopefully its under warranty cause it won't be cheap...but worth the drive to a dealer.

I would consider pulling the diff out.  Whatever made that hole is probably still in there.  A case is 199 on Alpha Sports.  I don't think it would be too hard of a job to swap your ring and pinion into the new case.  I wonder what made the hole.  A broken tooth?

I do not really know what cause it, as far what happened I just pulled it out from my garage to replace the shocks and just drove it back in the garage. I am really disappointed with this machine a lot of things I had to replaced fused blown out (overheating), collant leaking, oil line leaking, thermo switch, 12 volt fuse replaced, rear shocks replaced and now the differential case. All of this I had to do myself because the dealer that sold the machine closed down so I was not able to used the warranty. Then I found out that there was a CF Moto dealer in fairbanks through this forum and when I called them they said that my 1 yr warranty was finished last April 2017. This machine only has less than 500 miles. Is there a video online that I can use as a resource to replace the diff housing or maybe can somebody walk me through the process. I am new to fixing this kind of problem. I owned a 2003 yamaha and not even onceI had to replaced or fix something on that machine I still have it and still runs very good.

I have not had the pleasure on one of these yet but it looks much the same as the rest. Remove the driveline cover and unbolt the driveline, pull the axles which I would just unbolt the a-arms and make sure there is enough slack in the brake lines, drop the tie rod ends and pop the axles out and set down. Then just unbolt the unit and work out. I would disassemble it before ordering any parts. You know the case has to be replaced but what else?...and that you won't know until you open it up. Take lots of photos for yourself. These aren't all that complicated..just get all the thrusts and shims back in right will take some memory so..pics. I think a pin has come out..somewhere..like the spider gear shaft. The manual will help especially with torque specs.
