2016 RZR S 900
« on: September 20, 2015, 08:25:54 PM »
So I was made an offer that I couldn't refuse on my ZForce and decided to sell it.  A friend of mine just bought a '16 RZR S 900 and I was very impressed with it.  Impressed enough to buy one myself.  I was at Camp RZR with it all weekend and gave it a good break in ride.

THE FORUM ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE.  I'll still be supporting it just like usual so no worries there.

That's a nice ride. I'm glad you still are interested in the forum. I think CFMOTO is a company to watch. Even if I sold mine I would still be interested in them.

Not gonna lie, if I had the money, I'd have a RZR 900 XC.  I like my CF Moto though, it's been very capable.  I'm going to take it out soon, so hopefully I'll have more pictures to share.

Jason, just out of curiosity, how much did you get for your EX? Or was it a trade-in.

Private party sale.  $10,500 and I kept some of the accessories to sell and/or transfer to the RZR.

We all know the Z8 can out run a RZR 800 but not the 900. Aside from that, how do the ZForce and RZR compare overall?

I put about 115 miles on the RZR at Camp RZR and it's stout.  I'm not sure that the 12-13 HP difference is the most significant difference in terms of power as much as the clutching is the difference.  It pulls a lot harder than my Z8 did through the powerband.  I'd like to try out a Z8 with some clutch modifications to see how much difference can be made.  You can steer it through the corners with the gas pedal.

On my brother's 900 XP I don't care for the throttle response at all - it's hammer down or nothing and difficult to feather the throttle much.  On my 900 S you've got MUCH better overall throttle control.

The suspension on my 900 S is in a class of its own compared to my Z8.  They nailed the suspension geometry and it soaks up anything you throw at it.  It's a very confident ride at high speed chatters and harsh landings.

Driver positioning is more comfortable for me since I'm taller and I've got more legroom.  No more right knee banging into the dash.

It'd be nice to have the diff lock back, but I didn't find myself using it routinely on the Z8.  Then obviously it didn't come loaded with the accessories so it's more money and time to add things on. I bought the Polaris aluminum roof from a guy at Camp RZR for less than half of cost and got a good Amazon Warehouse Deal on a 4500 lb Superwinch so it's slowly coming together.  Lower door inserts from UTV Giant were only $99 and are some of the best money I've put into it.

I haven't started my clutch mods yet, but I can tell my Z8 has a lot more potential than I'm getting from it. I think with the right clutch mods, it'll really scream. I really considered the RZR S 900, but it was a little out of my price range. I do like the wet clutch better and real engine breaking. The RZR is a nice machine though.

I can tell you first hand that a simple secondary clutch adjustment turns the Z8 into something completely different. In fact, I dare say it will give a RZR 900 a run for it's money. Might not beat it...but it won't be far apart.

I agree. I was told by CFMoto that they purposely under power their units for engine life and durability.

I am currently in the process of rebuilding the motor in my blown Z8. My plan, if it will work, is use the HiSun 800 connecting rods instead of the CFMoto ones. The reason why is, the HiSun connecting rods are identical to the BRP ones, which means I can use BRP pistons. This also means, I can punch it out 2mm over, and make it an 842cc AND if I'm feeling frisky, I can go with the 2mm over & high compression pistons. I was able to purchase an entire brand new HiSun crank assembly cheaper than I could buying two BRP connecting rods, and I would still need bearings.

I'm looking into POSSIBLY going the air dam route for clutching, or I may just use the Dr Pulley 24g sliders and settings you have recommended.
