Switches, lights, and blindness oh my!
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:13:33 pm »
So I decided I wanted to add some lighting to my Z8. I looked at several light bars and found one on ebay with a wiring harness that was 120 watt 24 inch bar , it had two of them for $58. Since I have the CF moto and a Massimo 500, I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. I went through the switch panel and remove switches I won't be using like the flashers and the kill switch, and proceeded to add my switches for my light bar and my rock lights. I took the bottom panel off of the dash so I can access the wiring for the switch panel, and found the pigtails for the lighting system that is key switch activated and made my own piggyback harness to attach my light switches. All in all I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. the switches I used have dual LEDs in them, so whenever I turn on the key switch one side of the switch will light up and the other side of the switch lights up when that switch is activated. The light bar I purchased I wasn't too sure about being so cheap, but I can tell you its like literally night and day difference! The wiring harness that came with it is pretty high quality, it came with its own on off switch,  a fully wired relay, and enough harness to hook everything up from the battery all the way out. On the rock lights, I used three quarter inch LED that are commonly found on semi tractor trailers that have clear lenses. I mounted one in each wheel well, and one on the rear of the machine right where the license plate would be. They're not super bright but they do put off enough light that you can see at night if you have to hook anything up behind the bike, and off to the sides if you're in a really dark trail.

I nearly bought one of the curved ones , I really do like them. I had it in my cart and then saw the ones that I got! The curved one I was looking at was a 28 inch I think and it was $79 and I got 2 24 inch straight ones for 58.... I noticed that you have the rear plexi window. How do you like it? I installed the quarter window on front and we went riding this weekend and I had a lot of debris blow up from the floor boards that I didn't care for too much. I was wondering if putting the back glass on would help that or make it worse. I'm also curious about your radio setup. I just put a Bluetooth speaker up by the roof in mine and although it works wel,l its still not very loud

I'll try to remember tomorrow to post pictures of how I mounted my speaker system.

I mounted one speaker on the cross bar just left of the steering column. The other one right under the glove box.
Here is a link to the system (I get them through one of my parts suppliers)

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Systems-MCBK420B-Bluetooth-Amplifier/dp/B00T3QBL3M

This is actually a customers machine, but I have the same light bar on my personal one.

I also have the SuperATV rear windshield and full front windshield on my personal and they work great. They help reduce a lot of the sand swirl inside the cab. The only down side to these windshields is when the sun shines right in front of you, you're blinded and have to pull the ol Ace Ventura and stick your head out the side to see.

My old man just got his unit in and purchased the SuperATV full flip out windshield. I'll let you guys know how the assembly and overall product is tomorrow.

I didn't remove the dash. I took the screws out from the bottom, and then reached up from the bottom with my hands to release the tabs on the switches I wanted to move or replace. When you take the screws out of the bottom there is a panel that can drop down that also goes into firewall.

eBay. My purchases are no longer listed.  But I did have this one saved in my "watch list" so it must have been the one I used.

Look at this on eBay:
