NMK,
Hopefully the red foam UNI filter will keep out the fine dust from getting to the air box.  What are you thoughts about running it dry verses oiled. It is easier to clean the pre filter then having to open up the air box.....

Well, unoiled any open-celled foam will allow at least some particle through... just nothing for them to stick to. Good amounts will get trapped though. May be a coin-toss as whether or not its less or more then these dry micro cotton fiber filters. Maybe a quick answer would be to make a cone slip-over prefilter out of the red material, oil it lightly and slip it over these. Hmmm... maybe I can just slip my TwinAir right over it..after I cut those orange centering legs off.

Well, for now I did two things. One...and I know it isn't stylish..but I had two of these red prefilters left over from the mushroom filter set-up and they fit well enough to stay on so they got cleaned and put over the ends. Don't laugh..they look like little bonnets.

The other thing I did was for the engine air. I has several filter disks cut and ready to go into the mushroom filter when needed and one was an extra RED Unifilter material. It was like this one except red.

In the mushroom filter it would have looked like this.

I set the can filter in the center of it, cut three small holes near the center for the legs to go through, slipped it on and inserted it into the can. It didn't go all all the way to the base but it did go in like a diaphragm and seal pretty much to the can walls and folded back into a cone shape over the cotton filter. Needed to be about 2"s longer. Anyway.. it was oiled so that should give some decent protection. So..the engine side now has...the red prefilter, then a red oiled Unifilter material, then a high flow dry micro cotton fiber filter, then an oversized oiled two stage Unifilter...all before the throttle body. Good gravy Batman!..

I'm going to run over to the store tomorrow and pick up some uni red filter foam and make some cutouts that will fit up in the head of the snorkels. I think that if I can prevent it from even getting down the tube it might work a little better. Plus I would make it easy to just pop out shake off and stuff back in, It should keep in the rest of it pretty clean. I know what you mean about so many different levels of protection. I just wonder it what point are we going to start choking out our engines instead of providing clean air. LOL

I'm a big fan of "Surface Area". The more you have, the longer it takes to fill. That's one reason I didn't just cut out some prefilter and put onside the intake grills. That "Bag" effect is kinda like the original intake had.

Those are actually Outerwear funnel filters but you can get any size and color you want frpm their web site. That's where I got the other black ones for the other filters.

Coloradocrawler I like your spoiler how is it working out for you, I like the way it covers IMO that stupid point that our roofs have, I thought about cutting it out of my roof and covering the hole with a sheet of ABS but the damn thing covers half of the roof. I liked how your snorkels seemed to stand out less than NMK's they seemed to blend into the profile of the machine, of course they did I had totally forgot that you had chopped your cage and that controlled the height of the snorkels, I think the combination of the lower roof profile, spoiler covering the point, and the shorter snorkels really balance out well and look great. Our non-EX machines with a narrow wheelbase, 2" of lift or more, taller tires and the high roofline start to look top heavy and I think adding snorkels to it helps to accentuate it, now you have me thinking about chopping my cage....next year.

The spoiler is still a work in progress to get it at the right angle to maximize it's potential. I think NMK had the right idea to start having higher with the snorkels and adjust from there. I raised mine a little bit more to get them in the dust free zone. It is a work in progress. Chopping the cage on our Z's is not near as easy or quick as for the 800's, but it can be done with some time and patience. How are you doing on the floor covers?

New filter editions for both of my snorkel canisters  The air intake has got the red uni filter modified to fit over top of the cone mesh filter. Lightly oiled this should do the trick. On the CVT side snorkel. I just put a filter wear bag over top of the cotton mesh filter not to impede any kind of air flow that the CVT draws. Pics to follow.

Just finishing my doors so the floor had to wait, so far I've only covered the 4 seat belt holes I am posting a picture of it in a few minutes under the 600 section. I just want to drive it and stop working on it, I got a full set of body decals from Rodin but they are going to wait a while. I want to get some miles on it and see how my new filters are working out, that will also give you and NMK time to finish with the snorkel project, I am not doing another thing with my filters until I find out that mine are getting dirty too fast and more importantly the 2 of you get it all sorted out and have done nothing to your snorkels for an extended period of time, like maybe 2 weeks or so LOL. I think NMK had a really clever idea when he ran a strip of tape vertically sticky side out to see at what height the dust cloud subdued, I wonder where that was in comparison to the height of his intakes, you may need to go higher than the roof only because you chopped your cage. I guess I am at stage 1 with the filter improvements and I don't know where you guys are.

Well, haven't taken them apart yet..just got back from 4 days in the mountains. No issues..no extra heating of the CVT. Didn't have to service them at all so..so far so good. I'll pull them apart probably tomorrow and post some pics.

OK, here's the video on how they did. Not bad. May want to do something better on the engine side but I need to check the air box filter first.
