Hey guys. I have been kind of ducking this issue due to a lack of free time, my apologies. Could you all please let me know what physical size your attachments are? Also, what is happening? Are you simply getting a blank screen once the browser completes the postback?

Regarding the avatar picture...that is definitely capped, both on physical file size and width/height.

On a side note (not to try escape the issue, because it needs fixed), I would always recommend hosting images through free services like imgur and photobucket (this alleviates the need for extra server disk space and also, in my opinion, is more presentable than a string of attached images since they become embedded images in the post).

Thanks,
Alex

I was finally able to post pictures.  I had to greatly reduce the quality and size of them.  Alex, I posted some of the error messages in the forum requests category.

When I try to post pics in a thread, it goes to a blank screen when I click post.

When I try to post an avatar, it says you've successfully changed you profile, but the pic never comes up.

I don't know much about computers, so I'm lost on resizing and stuff like that.

I just use an app for my smartphone. Maybe someone could be kind enough to post some directions for the pc users. I'm not going to much help on that.

Just to give you all an update...

I created a bbcode to embed imgur albums and picture into your post. It is associated with the green dot on your bbc bar (above smiley faces).

To use this, simply get your album or singular pictures ID after uploading to imgur (no account needed, btw), and use the green dot button. That will insert [imgur] into your textbox. You will need to place the ID between the opening imgur and closing ([/imgur]) brackets, along with adding the type attribute. The "type" defines if it is an album or if it is a single picture.

As example:

(single picture)
Code: [Select]
[imgur type=p]gq6kZJM[/imgur]

(album)
Code: [Select]
[imgur type=a]8HD6k[/imgur]

Here is what the end result will look like

(single picture)
[imgur type=p]gq6kZJM[/imgur]

(album)
[imgur type=a]8HD6k[/imgur]

I realize this may not be ideal, but it is a work around (and a nice one once you get ahang of it, imo) until we figure out the whole attachment size thing.

I expect that @Jason will be putting together a How-To on uploading images/creating albums on imgur, along with how to post it on the forum.

Thanks,

Alex

Is anybody else having issues posting pictures?  I know this forum always had issues with pictures but, now it seem like I can't upload even the smallest of pictures.  It kind of sucks when I type out a post and can't insert a pic.  Kind of makes it worthless.

Remember..not only are there limits on the size of the upload but the total number of uploads (or it might be the total of all the attachments). This is all of them.. from all posts you ever posted an attachment in. You can delete some of your previous attachments to see if this is the case but that will remove them from the posts they were in.

I'm transferring my stuff from Photobucket to Imgur and it's working out well. No limits on posting links cause it's just text to the server...well, there is a limit of links per post but it's like..50..or something like that.

Only if you have reached your limit..and I can't tell. Send a PM to Jason to check. You can see all your attachments from your profile..but I don't think it says the limits. I do see you have about 106 total attachments..which is about 3-times as many as I do...lol

Did I mention the Imgur accounts are free? :)

I just sent a PM to Alex and Jason on this asking what the actual limits were and how a member can tell.

I'm also requesting that my attachment limit be increased.  A post is nothing without pictures.  These machines are complicated and trying to explain how to rebuild a CV joint or other technical process with just words is difficult.  I try to make my posts helpful, informative, and slightly witty.

I do not feel that the proper way to handle this is to delete old posts.  The purpose of a forum is to have a record of previous posts.  It does not benefit the user community.  A new CFmoto owner will not have the benefit of looking up all of helpful information that was posted here over the years.  A seasoned guru will not be able to see what worked and what failed for others.  I often refer to old posts for reference.
