I HATE these seats
« on: July 23, 2019, 09:02:16 AM »
The stock seats really dig into my lower back.  They seem to be bent wrong or something.  Any thoughts?  Options?

For me the base is in the wrong angle and not enough "cush". I fixed the "cush" with a gel cushion but the rest will require a seat replacement. I will not spend 6-900 bucks per seat for this thing but...for about 200 or less each I'm told the X3 OE seats are an easy adapt and are damn comfortable compared to the OE CFM Z seats. You can find these X3 take-outs on ebay.

It's the bottom portion of the back rest.  It is hard as a rock.  I think the plastic is molded wrong.  Explain X3 take out?  What kind of vehicle is it off of?

thanks for all your help NMK

I had better never sit in one of those other machines. So far the CF Moto seats seem fine, except for the hokey adjustment method which I just leave at fully back anyway.
If I tried seats that were way better that would spoil me for these ones. No point rocking that boat. :D

The "X3 take-outs" are just the stock seats from the Can Am Maverick 1000 X3 that people replace with high-dollar seats. They sell those on ebay for pretty cheap. I say these because the Polaris RzR seats require you to cut the cab plastics to fit where although there are some mods to put the X3 seats in, none are said to need the plastics cut and open up more large holes in the cab. Here's a few examples from ebay.

This one has a slider base. Not sure how you would make it work but you can buy slide-bases on ebay too for the others:

I feel the same way, I have no problem with the seats in my 1000 and find that they are pretty comfy really.  Makes me wonder if the other Z models have worse seats or something but I haven't driven any so I don't know.  Also agree that a better adjustment would be nice for the odd times my wife or kids drive it, but it's not like they can't reach the pedals anyway.  I just slid it back as far as it'll go and left it there.  Worst case, the passenger seat isn't all the way back so if she were gonna drive for a long time we could just swap seats.

Agree completely the Zforce seats are nothing special.  Subpar for sure.  I think seats and shocks are the biggest areas of improvement on our Z's, which is probably why the price is so much more reasonable.

I have the 2019 Z8 trail and agree that they are a bit uncomfortable.  I've adjusted the seats all of the way back and that helped a bit, but now I'm finding wear on a couple of places on the seats.  Moved the seats up about a 1/4" and put black duct tape over the wear marks with hopes that helps eliminate the wear.  The seat base seems comfortable enough, but I think there is to much incline on the seat backs.  I'm tempted to try and bend them forward just a bit, but haven't as yet.  Has anyone changed the angle on their seat backs?  If so, how did you do it?

I have. I did it by adding spacers between the top frame-to-back section to tip the top forward some. It did help. You might need longer screws depending on how much spacer you use. An added side benefit was that I could cut the base adjusting slots an extra inch or so longer and move the seat back that much more. Not that I'm a tall guy but any extra leg room is very noticeable and welcomed in these Zs.

I also one experimented with added 1" square tubing to the seat base to raise it up that inch. More leg room but didn't like the feel so out it went.

I went out and examined my seats to see if I could identify what people were considering uncomfortable or sub-par. It appears that the seats are formed as a plastic shell that curves around to the front and cups the foam portion. This hard plastic cup reaches around to about half the thickness of the foam and keeps that in place.
When I sit in the Z force my lumbar area barely contacts the seat back, and I cannot pelvic tilt enough to make my back touch the hard backing shell.

I just came back from an Idaho trip of a couple of 10 hour days in the seat and there was no discomfort at all, though I heard some complaints from my ATV mounted companions. (Based on a test ride I allowed to one of my ATV riding friends, he states he's about to buy a SXS.) :)

I have to suppose that with the limited adjustability of the CF Moto seats, they either favour one's anatomy or they don't.

They're not terrible, they're just not the quality of say a RZR 1000 or something similar.  I don't have any real problem with them, but they are not as comfortable as competitor's seats.

I was up at the Jericho ATV festival today and found myself with an opportunity to sit in a Z1000. The seats in this machine are considerably more comfortable/softer than my Z8, and they should fit any Z.

Not sure how to find them online.

Alpha-Sports has them...about 370 for a complete seat but it looks like you can just buy the backs and seat bases but they will cost you more...like 426 just for them....and that's per seat. A set of X-3 seats are a lot less

That would probably explain why I don't find any comfort issues with my seats then!  I haven't driven any other CFM models besides my 1000 so I can't compare.  I'm 100% happy with the seats in mine and even after a long day I don't find them to be uncomfortable.  There IS a guy up the road from me with a 500 Trail that wants to swap machines for a spin to try out the 1000 so I'll likely get a chance sometime.
