Steering stem
« on: September 08, 2015, 08:59:34 pm »
Wondered why I had a bit of a knock in the steering, after inspection I found that the end of the steering stem where it comes out of the power steering unit was loose, the pic from the manual doesn't show it but the shaft is splined and it was loose on the spline, anyway I was trying to tighten the bolt and it snapped off, you can see there is a bit of bolt left in one half. Bike done 345 klm, probably not covered under warranty now that I have tampered with it. Going to be a bugger to get to for replacement :-(

Is it the stem from the handlebars to the power steering? I just had to do a renegade with EPS. It wasn't much fun digging to get to it. If it is a two piece clamp and it won't clamp down after you tighten it down you can take material off the clamp face or try a piece of aluminum can and place it in between the two. Might want to drill out the thread and use a grade 8 bolt and aircraft nut to hold it together.

Hi Cosmosdan, no its the stem that comes out of the bottom of the P/S unit, dealer said they have had a few come in with the same issue (but not broken) and they have fixed them under warranty, but because I,ve stuffed it their not sure, waiting for claims manager to come back Monday, I'm going to have a go at fixing it myself rather than loading bike up and taking it in and them trying to charge me for labour.

I think you should be able to get it done. Just have to get to the upper clamp/bushing. After that you should be able to pull it out.
