UPDATED: Z8 EX lift brackets
« on: August 17, 2018, 07:30:18 pm »
Those who are running the 2" RZR 800 bracket lift, could you please help me understand the installation? $40 kit from eBay that has 8 brackets which have 4 different size brackets, smaller bracket holes center to center are 1 1/4" and taller ones are 1 3/8" Center to center. Do the taller ones go up front and shorter in the rear and looks like the rear brackets would have to be mounted up top of the shock because the spring will hit the upper control arm. If anyone could explain or maybe even have pictures of this setup it would greatly help me get this installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Denny

I don't really remember. I had to match them up then cut the bottoms off of some so they sat level on the A-arms. I put all of them on the bottom of the shock. It was close in the rear but the springs only touched the A-arm with the suspension fully unloaded, and I cut a little notch out of the square tubing. It works for me. If you can mount them to the top that would work too but I didn't even look so I don't know how hard it would be.

Thank you for the pictures, it looks as though your front brackets may be the shorter ones... Do you mind if I ask where you purchased the brackets from?

I have been looking into this lift as well. Is it really as simple as it looks? Is it really just bolt on and go? Have you notice any negative issues with it? Any positive issues?

I had to cut the bottoms off of a couple so they sat right on the A-arm. If you have a way to cut metal it's easy. Also you should probably tac weld the bottoms to the a-arm. I didn't do this yet, but it's been over a year and I haven't had any issue yet I just make sure the bolts are very tight! I've had no ill effects. It does lift the machine higher than what it says I think it gave me about 3 inches. So I unloaded the preload to bring it back down to about 2 inches. If you don't want the softer ride then I would drill a second set of holes halfway in between and you can have an adjustable lift. There is a Smithfield lift kit I believe which is better bolt on quality but I think it was around $200 if they still make it. My friend has a band saw so this was a very easy kit to do. hardest part was deciding which brackets to go where they are all different so I had to match up hole lengths then decide which set to put on the front and rear. My decision came from the least amount of cutting.

FYI, the shorter ones go on the rear.
I installed mine over the weekend. Had to do a little fab work to get them on but nothing major. I used a sawz-all to cut about 1/4 inch off the bottoms of one mount on each of the fronts. Had to grind about 1/8th of an inch off the spacers on all four corners. Also had to shave off the end piece of the box tubing on the rear training arms so they would clear the shocks. Again, not a problem. The entire job can be done in maybe 90 minutes if you have the tools.
Next time I am near a welder, I will probably tack weld the brackets to insure they don't move. But not until I see if there are any negative performance issues.

I said I would tac weld them when I decided if I was happy with it too. Well I'm happy with it and still haven't welded it lol.

Thank you all for the responses, sorry have been busy with work and didn't respond sooner, I have bought all new grade 8 hardware and marked everything to be cut or grinded a bit. The Z8 has been sitting in the garage on jack stands for the last week or more. Thanks again. I'll post a picture with it done and when I figure out how to link a picture to the site.

Finally found time to post some updated pics of the Z8 with 29"Bighorn's, 2" rzr bracket lift and 1.25 wheel spacers. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, I now have 15.25" from ground to bottom of rockers and it rides a shit ton better with the 29's.
