Bandit UTV Suspension Springs for the Trail
« on: September 22, 2018, 05:04:16 PM »
I’d like to make a little announcement. A while back I was talking with several shock and spring suppliers about a problem I like most of us CFM 800 trail guys have been having with our collapsing and/or incorrect spring dual rates giving us the worst ride of any 50” SxS on the market. At the time, besides Elka making a Stage1 and 3 for us no one was interested in helping…except Bandit UTV Suspension. As it turns out their rear springs for the Wildcat trail worked perfectly on the rears of the CFM  ZForce Trails and after some extensive testing my myself and a few others, found the ride so dramatically improved, Bandit decided to move a head and spec a special set for the front of our Trails on their next run.. and will be on the market very soon. I will be receiving the first set of fronts and will be testing them extensively. Right now you can find the rears on their web site. They are a single-rate spring in two rates- Medium and Heavy. The medium are 200lb which is what I have been testing and are more then enough for a 220lb driver,120lb passenger and 120 extra lbs of stuff in my 800. The Heavy are 250lb and will be for the owner that hauls lots more then standard stuff and a passenger.  The new fronts will be 175lb to start with then will include a 200lb/Heavy option later. So, if you are a Trail owner, either the 800 or 500, and would like the..almost.. feel of  a set of Elka shocks for around 200 bucks, get yourself a set of these Bandit springs. Your wife…and backside will thank you! Mine did. Here’s a link to their site:  https://www.banditutvsuspension.com/   . If you have the time, give a shout-out to Ted Plachta at Bandit and thank him for stepping up for us. His email is: banditutv@yahoo.com . Oh, by the way, Ted says he would be happy to custom-build anyone a set of shocks..even tougher then Elka..for less then you would pay at Elka in most cases. He can put piggy-backs on our trails too. Food for thought!

Their site now shoes CFMoto and only the rear set until the fronts come in and are tested. The cost you see is per set. And again, the Mediums are plenty stout as is so the Heavy will be too stiff for most users. If you get the rears now, you will have to call to get just the fronts later...but Bandit is happy to sell just the fronts or just the rears any time. You need the rears heavier then the front because of the weight difference so the rears will be 200lb and the fronts will be 175lb. You don't want 200lb all the way around.

Ordered mine Saturday and arrived Monday. Thanks for getting this set up. Just need some time to swap them out. Anything I should be aware of when setting them up?

Nope. Might take a hitch-to-ground measurement with the old ones and set the new ones the same. I found one turn is about 5mm on the spring and almost an inch on height..Like most springs they will settle-in after a few rides and you will want to re-check that height and make that last adjustment.

Oh I just remembered one thing. When you re-install your shocks make sure both end "I"s are straight. I has one of mine slightly rotated and it flexed the seal enough to let dirt and mud in. It started squeaking so it had to come back off, cleaned and re-greased. It is a good time to do that anyway while off. Here's a vid it did a while back on that.
