I think your primary clutch will be OK but be aware though, don't use anything metallic when you go to deglaze the belt, no SOS or steel wool. The thumpa thumpa could be glaze caused slip or it could be the belt is a hair narrower on the spot where it slipped and smoked, or both. It'll be hard to tell with the naked eye.
I believe belt slammers should come with a speech to new buyers about the dangers of slip and the wisdom of using low range where appropriate.
I saw a woman one day on a Polaris on a big multi machine group ride, she was stopped on her quad on a little hill and was holding the machine from rolling back by using the throttle, while she sat and chatted with some people standing there! Lady, you're doing a brakestand on your belt, you realize...
She didn't. She just thought it's like her car, you can just apply throttle to hold it on a hill.
No one had ever told her otherwise.
